Double Bass Wayne jones

Has anyone used these speakers or amps?? I’ve heard some very good things about them.

Subbed. I have not seen or heard them personally but I've always been intrigued by WJA design, especially since Mr. Jones is one of the few bass amp makers building powered cabinets - ahead of his time in that respect, IMO.

They never struck me as DB amps but more for guys who want clean and clear-as-glass BG tone. I'm curious to hear others' experiences.

Edit: Apparently it's been a while since I've been to the website. Scott Colley is endorsing? That powered 1x10 looks amazing. I wonder how it would pair with my Alix?

I've never played DB through any Wayne Jones gear, but I did play electric through a 2x10 setup that was for sale locally. It sounded really great and looked very well made. The downside to all his cabinets IMHO is that they are BIG. They are almost twice as deep as they are wide (even the 1x10). That's just too big (and heavy) for me to pack around for everyday gigging. Below is a pic I stole from the classifieds of a 1x10 stack side view... They could be perfect for a rehearsal space, but I'm too lazy to carry gear this big up and down stairs and into all the tiny places I gig at.

I wanted a 110 powered set before but ended up with a different brand. The form factor is the one that really steered me away from WJA cabs.

When Wayne was running the close-out special for his U.S. inventory late last year, I bought a powered 110 and passive 110 to use with my Noble preamp. I was blown away with how great this sounded. Unable to restrain myself, I also bought the two-channel preamp shown above, and I love the sound with of the pre-amp with the two 110's. I'm no expert as I've not tried lots and lots of amps. But I would say Noble sounds naturally fatter and the WJ pre sounds cleaner and maybe more focused AND very rich tubey tone when played flat (which is what I prefer). With the WJ pre, a wide range of eq's are available. I am still using the Noble when playing at Church (not doing that a lot due to C19 concerns) because they are not real big on gear changes. But someday I'll try the WJ pre at church. I'm not setting up a competitive comparison of the Noble and the WJ. Both are amazing though different and I'm pretty fortunate to have them both. Setting all that aside, I think the WJ gear is well worth it, even at full price.

Wayne's gear is top notch. I first reviewed the powered WJ210 and the powered and passive WJ110 back in 2015. I really fell in love with the cabs, and ended up buying the powered and passive WJ1x10's. I have used them for electric bass, upright bass, vocals, and PA, and they are great with any source signal. I later purchased the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], pictured above, and it is also quite excellent. Very clear and very smooth. We currently have in for review the 2x1000w 2-channel head, the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], and the new passive WJ210's. This rig is phenomenally good, and of course, overkill for double bass. There is a single-channel head, the WJBA2 1000, but it does not have the XLR input. I also have a pair of his original, older passive 2x10 cabs, and they still sound huge, clear, and fantastic.

I have the WJ single channel preamp and a powered 2x10. It is an incredible WIGWGO setup. The cab gets very little use as I am an IEM guy, but when needed it rocks. Post Covid I hope to have a second powered 2x10 as my keyboard playing is becoming more revelant and the stereo in and out will shine.

I had the WJBP and powered 110 for quite some time and it's hands-down one of the finest sounding pieces of gear I've ever owned. I described it as making "the exact sound of my bass, but with tons of POWER." It was crystal-clear and instantaneous. I'm actually looking for another right now because after playing with some other amps, the WJBP is what I want them to sound like. But, yeah, they're stupid heavy.

FWIW, I ran the second channel out from the powered 110 to my Bag End 15x cab and that sounded incredible, too. I had to balance in favor of the 110 so the Bag End wouldn't overpower it, but there's a pan pot right on the WJBP, so easy-peasy.
