Wayne Jones!!!

FWIW, I and a few fellow bass affecionadoes did a side by side comparison between two Acme B2's and two Wayne Jones 210's, and in the end, everyone agreed that the Acme cabs sounded better. The Jones, though articulate, lacked low-end and had somewhat hollow sounding mids.

Those were my WJs that Soulfinger is describing above. Actually I would qualify his statement a bit. The Acmes and the WJs do sound as he described when compared A/B with the same setup and no compensation for power rating differences etc. The WJs, as 8 ohm cabs rated at 780 watts apiece, were thus sorely underpowered at our shootout, comparred to the 4 ohm Acmes rated at 350 watts each. The Acmes have such a terrific flat sound with tons of lows that our shootout, IMO, was biased. But there were four guys there with tons of gear, everyone was hot to hear it all, and the WJs were quickly dismissed with little discussion. I wasn't much into "defending" the WJs that night.

The fact is, to my ears at least, if you put the Acmes up against the WJs in a loud rock jam setting in a room with good flat acoustics, and put the power to the WJs, you had better get out of the way and hold onto your gonads. No comparison to say the least - the WJs kick butt. Not knocking the Acmes - I still own a pair. But the WJs are in a different league - they better be for the price!! In all fairness, remember you could buy four low B2s for less than the price of two WJs and have plenty of cash left over for another power amp!

Hey Gant! Good to hear from you. I didn't realize that they were underpowered. It all makes more sense now---if I remember correctly, they "sounded underpowered", if that means anything--much in the same way that my SWR 410 sounds when I use my 200 watt amp, as opposed to my 800.

Hi guy's,

I have 2 WJ's. I've done gigs with 1, bridging a QSC PLX 2402,
1500W into 8 ohms, but I prefer 2 - 2400W into 4 ohms. With
a little help from a BBE 482 and 2 compressors I have all the
bottom end, growling mids and crystal clear highs I could ever
want.

I feel that it is only fair to warn y'all that these things are
addictive. In the near future I will be adding 2 more WJ's and
another QSC.

Hi Jokerj,

I had a look at the picture of your WJ cab - can I suggest that you lay it flat instead of on it's side if you want more bottom end. Set your preamp eq flat and use the two frequency attenuators on the rear of the cabinet to tune the sound, then fine tune with your preamp. You should be able to get plenty of low end slam with with a powerful enough amp. Stacking two flat is really the way to go, but lugging them around is another matter all together.

I have both Acme and Wayne Jones, WJ cut through better than Acme , and much louder . One to one Acme has more low than WJ but WJ is much louder and tighter.
If you want to have a deeper lows , pair 2 WJ .
The high of WJ is smoother and finer than Acme.
I would say Acme is a good cab but WJ is better.
WJ is comparable to Glockenklang in my opinion.
I have those 3 brands and i would like to post picture next week. :)

I used a Wayne Jones 210 for a while. They are very high quality but really work better as a sub-woofer than a full range cab. I found them extremely scooped sounding... wonderful bottom and smooth high end, but very little mid-range punch. The strange thing is that Wayne includes a mid attenuator control along with the typical tweeter attenuator. Since the cab is mid shy anyway, I found that unusual. So, as far as a full range cab, it is a lot louder than other 210's I've used (Eden, SWR, EA and Acme), but that lack of mid punch was not to my taste.
