Sticky for the new kids?

I saw a band playing with Gwar this last winter (sorry, I forgot the bands name ). After the show, the bass player walked past me and I made a point to shake his hand and tell him he was a great player and that I appreciated listening to him and his band. (I think my exact action was stepping forward, shaking his hand, smiling broadly, and saying "Awesome" enthusiastically). He really appreciated it, and thanked me. He really was a good player, it was a metal band, and he was NOT lost in the mix at all. He seemed to really enjoy his place in the music, and on stage. He had a smile on his face the whole time, like he knew that he was helping to make it all happen, and just enjoying being a part of it. That's a healthy attitude for bass playing, and life.

For the record, though I do take amusement in the longevity of this thread, I never really meant to feed the troll. I just wanted to water the flower that grew out of the troll's poop. I mean, it is nice to hear reinforcing positivism and realism from fellow bass players. Though I realize that 'bullsh*t makes the flowers grow, and that's beautiful man'; too much bullsh*t can stink up the place and drive off the party guests. So.. ok, I'm done here.

Yeah, well, top billing does that to an informational apparatus. At least 'bump' it with something useful... Such as, 'hey guys I read all your patient suggestions about posting threads and will take them under advisement, thank you'.

where did this whole 'no bass in metal' stuff start?
decent metal bands have a very prominent bass sound (opeth, SYL, sikth, meshuggah etc)
unless we're talking about black metal
