Wearing shorts on stage.

Some shorts are fine for certain situations. However, I must say that khaki--pants or shorts--should never be in a musician's wardrobe, unless you're in a church band or playing at a country club social.
I also agree with the running shoes bit. If you aren't planning on immediately going for a jog, then running shoes should not be on your feet!

Since we all can't agree on shorts or no shorts, can we come to a consensus that Capri pants aren't an option...ever...unless your are female?
Personally, I don't. For me, it's tacky.
I did make an exception one time, and that was an outdoor gig in July, 1:00 in the afternoon with full sun and about 110 degrees on stage with humidity. But as a rule, it's jeans for me always.
That's not an "official" rule in my band but 4 of the 5 guys pretty much abide by it all the time with the drummer being the exception.

That's funny cause yesterday we had this gig and due to the weather I had to wear shorts, but anyway I don't it's a bad thing... except in specific situations like weddings and such... but for a an outdoor gig playing classic rock cover for a bunch of drunk people in a motorcycle club (here in Brazil)... I mean... what the heck haha

Interesting enough, many of these uninformed hipsters, at least in NYC and San Fran, are graphic designers that influence your decision to buy products by applying psychological techniques and current trends.
I wouldn't call avoiding socially acceptable trends or norms uniformed.

I avoid wearing shorts however I can recall playing several gigs at a Marina, outside, July, hot as you know what and wish I had shorts on. There are some shorts that are more approapriate than others. If you can get away with it, why not, Depends on the gig and the venue.

I'm a huge Stones fan, when I go to their shows I expect them to look like the rock icons they are.

but they could also wear whatever they wanted and you are still there to HEAR the music for your $150, not so much see what cool stuff a 66yo rock icon might show up to WEAR, yes?
our band plays half-pirate music and half rootsy stuff. i'll be damned if i am gonna wear a pirate getup like the original freecreditscore.com guys for our shows unless someone pays us sick money (i whore myself)

Seriously....at what length do shorts become pants and pants become shorts? Is the article of clothing cut right at the dividing line called 'shants' and when are those appropriate?
