Our band agrees on what we're going to wear before a show. Then I'm the only one who takes it seriously and look like an idiot. At our last wedding it was hawaiian shirts and nice pants. I was stupid enough to do it, they all showed up in dark shirts.

3 black shirts and one bright red and yellow shirt all night long. I just hate those guys.

What about hardcore and indie where the crowd doesn't want to see "pro" looking musicians? That crowd avoids mainstream and corporate anything. Now what?

I get wearing "Chuck Taylors" for some guys in some bands.

But wearing cross trainers and running shoes, OMG ghetto for any band. No other side to that one, not cool.

Some of my band members are guilty here but I would never say anything. If your on stage wearing white running shoes on and you don't understand that there is something not right about it.It's behind anything you can tell anyone.

Thing is, I'm wearing Beatle Boots and my feet were killing me. 12 hours later I had them back on for the next show and my feet still hurt.

I've worn shorts lots of times. I think I can pull it off. But I have to agree on the running shoe thing. That's a tough one. Don't think I've ever done it. Again, I have to point to flea though, as he's one of the few that can wear anything he wants and make it work. Should be a goal for us all.

I didn't know that shorts mean no money. I wore shorts last night for a gig with a 6 piece Reggae band where I pocketed over $200 and a bar tab. We also have an outdoor wedding gig coming up, and I plan on wearing shorts for that.

I am sure there are several one sentence replys, taking the position that wearing shorts is situational

I think it's fine for those bands to dress like their fans.

They have what I would consider uninformed fans.

Musicians are artists and, generally speaking, artists don't give a damn what anyone else thinks of them. So if it's 95 degrees and you wanna play a gig in shorts, I say damn the torpedos full speed ahead.
