I'm old and fat and only play for fun anymore, which means I am wearing shorts about 95% of the time. When it gets cold I pull the jeans out. My days of trying to make it or wanting to playing in a band like faulkner's are over.

Now just having fun and wearing what I want and somehow staying booked more than I want in the process. Last night we played a pool party for an upscale apartment complex and everyone was wearing shorts (or less). Here's one from a recent outdoor festival.

Jarrett your not old, none of us have to get old. We get older, but thats different than getting old. I probably have at least 20 years on you and I'm not old.

I would say that when playing bass in a band becomes a "just for fun" proposition I would agree that at that point it really doesn't matter what you wear.

I just hope I never get to the "just for fun stage"

It's hot out side in most parts of the country. It's been in the 90s in Milwaukee for the last couple of days.

The shorts topic is relevent even though it's beens discussed a million times.

These guys do it all the time:

Joe, their famous, so in my book they don't count. Plus they fall in the "can pull it off" catagory.

The RHCPs look good in shorts and as I said earlier not all guys can pull it off.

I think what some guys will do is say, hell if the Chilles can do it, so can I. Which is fine, but I say model your shorts look with your band and get the thumbs up from a credible chic first. Then that guy is good to go.

Once you bring that attitude towards any element of a bands performance or look it sort of benchmarks your level of professionalism.

No offense I've performed in bands at your age, you have ever performed in a band at my age.

Tone is a constant battle, I struggle with it all the time.

I also struggle with "dress" too. Both are important and crucial to any performance.

There's a band around here that the guys do that. Me? Naa... never. Just like shorts.

We have actually never had a client request that. We get 4 frequent requests:

Casual Hip (think clubs, top 40, pop)

Suits + Casual - Black or grey suits + Converse Chuck Taylors and other flair..

Semi Formal - matching or coordinated suits with dress shoes

Formal - Tuxedos

We also get occasional requests for themes...70's Disco and a Madmen theme (I attached a photo) are 2 that come to mind.
