Wearing shorts on stage.

The famous such as Eric don't count, he can wear anything he wants.
If we want to pretend to be famous for a couple of hours onstage, what is so wrong with dressing comfortable, just like real deal famous cats do?

I don't buy one rule for them, one rule for us. It's rock'n'roll, baby, there are no rules. Have fun, get paid, or have fun, don't make a dime, it's just music played your way, shorts or no shorts.

I can wear shorts and get paid, looking ugly doing it, more power to me.

So in summary, shorts are unprofessional, but the following are perfectly fine:

Wear what makes you happy. You have no idea the crap I've gotten over outfits like this, and how some of the guys looked who gave me that crap.

I'm sure I'll even get some on here, but that's NOTHING!

I have worn Dashikis with high heel boots and long, dangly earrings; white flare leg painter pants; you name it. I will wear whatever strikes my fancy, and I highly recommend you all do the same.

Dude, is that a real rainbow behind you or is someone just really good with Photoshop. BTW, I could see were some
guy(s) could give you a little grief over that in some dive bar.

I hate to add to this thread, but the pages of arguments are just hilarious.

I'm newer to bass and music than probably most of you, and it's weird seeing "pro" musicians arguing about the length of your pantaloons suggesting your skill and determination as a player to make it or just plain care.

A lot of you guys seem to think everyone plays to the same "clients" and specifications and are kind of blind to other styles of music/audience/venue/musicians. I like stoner rock and doom and write originals, I think shorts and a T shirt work, but hey my entire rig is stark black and white, so a tux could work as well (then I'd be making big money).

That sky is totally impossible. I photoshopped the sun streaks in the middle AND the rainbow. I don't think light works like that.

It was actually just overcast, and the young lady taking the photos asked me to pose like that.

It's not so much guys at dive bars that gave me a hard time. It's other local musicians on the internet, and MY WIFE who give me all the problems.

My wife wanted me to look like a hair metal dude, and might have even put me in spandex, if I'd let her.

She hated the porn star moustache, and I tried clean shaven for a while, but it's not me, so I went for the goatee, and luckily, she liked it.

I'm not sure which side of the argument this picture supports, but I feel it needs to be a part of this thread.

This is how pretty much all guys in shorts on stage look to me, which is why I would never do it.

Of course, this guy obviously wants to look that way and doesn't care what I think, so I guess if you feel the same way, rock your tutu... er, shorts. :D

I get the stuff about heat and humidity but I just don't agree. I see bands play in shorts and flip-flops and I get turned off right away. My view is regardless you have to at least out dress your audience.

really? If I walked into a club and these guys were playing I would prepare myself for the most boring night ever! Unless they were playing for a hall full of blue hairs down at the local Vets hall!

I don't really understand this. Don't particularly like the idea of setting myself out to be better than the audience. Especially when we get off stage and we become part of the audience for the rest of the night!
Well, yeah, but you have a 666 in your username. Your culture requires playing on multi-band bills and disapproves of dressing stylishly. Most of us are free from those restrictions.
