Wearing shorts on stage.

Otherwise you wouldn't have posted anything in this thread.
Also, F.W.I.W........ it's "I couldn't care less".
Let's go into this a little and not just shorts......dressing the part. I always try to give a little something in my appearance that speaks to being a professional who is working and takes it seriously. I'm not just hanging out. I'm in a band now that does country rock, some classic, and some straight up country. We have only done two gigs but it looks like i'm dressed to the nines compared to most of the band. I'm talkin half ass tee shirts, jeans, sneakers.. I have told the band that image is key and part of the musical pkg. We are not young men. We are not a garage band. When half the audience is better dressed than you, you've got a real problem in my book. I'm talking some clubs but mostly privates and restaurants like the Chesapeake Inn. In my opinion it's limiting our appeal and what we can ask for. We have a wedding coming up. I have always done tuxes for these affairs. I'm dying to see what developes for this gig. How about some input here, or are those days over (dressing nice)as some of the band members have told me?
If you're playing at a wedding the bride and groom should basically dictate what you wear.
In my area a tux would be mandatory. If it's black tie optional, it's still mandatory in my mind. If it's not specified, suit and tie will suffice as long as it's agreed upon.
At most of our normal gigs (bars and restaurants) we'll usually dress presentable. Which is basically button up shirts and jeans. If we're playing outside in the summer and it's seriously hot I will probably wear shorts. I need to be comfortable, period.
With that said, I did play a wedding a few years ago on the hottest day of the year in a full tux. It sucked.
I definitely agree that it depends on the gig...and that I'll never wear a goofy hat on stage. I can't say I wouldn't wear an Aloha shirt though.
Ill fitting, baggy shorts, a t shirt and baseball cap seems to be a uniform around here. The only thing missing is a big round red nose, and big floppy red shoes.
i guess technically per your own argument he had it right with "i could care less." since he obviously does care.
I live in central Florida. If you have an afternoon gig in the summer you had better be wearing shorts. You had better make it work though.
It all depends on the music. It's fine to wear shorts in a punk band. It's not fine to wear them to an orchestra recital.
