Wedding present woes

I think it sooo depends on the couple, and if there's a registry, so much the better; some people will make good use of elaborate kitchen appliances, some would rather have a silver picture frame, some would like a gift card to Home Depot (I've given all three.)

If you're looking at getting a nice little household-y sort of thing, not too cheap, not too extravagant, a practical suggestion that was passed on to me: Tiffany's. You can find a dish or tray or whatnot for $100-150, and that little blue box always seems to lift spirits.

Being a poor musician and paramedic, neither of which is lucrative, and being married to a Social Worker, which is even less so, I've written and performed wedding songs for a few couples.

The most recent wedding that I played at was a little terrifying. My wife had sung at the bride's first wedding. So the bride said that she wanted her to sing at this one as well. My wife has not sung in public in years and was promptly struck with crippling stagefright. Her solution was to immediately reply that I could do it and I'd even write a song for them.

I barely knew the bride and had never met the groom. This is way into ulcer city. As little as two weeks before the wedding I had nothing. I was telling my wife to just call her and say we couldn't do it and we'd buy a normal gift, somehow. At the last moment inspration struck and we had the song. Everything worked out, but I'm still amazed I didn't end up on ulcer meds and antidepressants.

Why don't you try this? It seems like the Prez is trying to shoehorn his way in on events this election year! BTW, this was LOADED with sarcasm... Just wanted to be sure you all got that...

Hes republican...

But yeah, the more I think of it, I'm leaning towards cash, though like a 30$ adult store giftcard and a bottle of Tequila might be a nice co-gift.

Like I said in my original post, that was VERY loaded with sarcasm. I would NEVER do anything like that, regardless of the candidate, but ESPECIALLY Obama. We've had too much of him as it is. I think this whole idea is really tacky, but hey, I'm not a millionaire living in the White House...

Registry is always the safe way to go - after all, it's their list of stuff they want.

My wife and I have often done the sex basket thing too - a basket with a bottle of champagne and a couple of glasses, some massage oils and stuff, a set of those positions dice, that kind of thing. We usually don't get too kinky with it (most of our circle is relatively tame - as far as we know, of course....), but just to get the wedding night started right.
