Weight

No it doesn't . Only if you try and sell on here .

Then why do many shops on Reverb and online retailers routinely post weights? Sweetwater is one of the bigger players, and it posts weights of most stock basses....ditto for Chicago Music exchange, Bass Central and others. Poor lads....wasting their precious time weighing basses when someone on TB says it doesn't help them sell......

Keep telling yourself that.

I will . Genuinely , the only place I have ever been asked about the weight of a bass I am selling is on bass forums . Never used reverb so can't comment . If genuine buyers want what I am selling , they will pay good dollar without wasting my time . I appreciate that it is a biggie for some folks , but in the global market it matters not one iota .

only half retired musicians have the time to waste on such forum?

Exactly that .

Yes I spent very, very little time on this or any Forum when Gigging 2-5 nights a week

Also Yes many here get carried away with 'Weight' in purchase process will buy Bass that is 8lb 15oz but not one that is 9lbs:)

But with availability of High Quality lighter weight Basses [Amps and Cabs also] it is now a viable want in purchase decision speaking for myself

I bought a Stingray Special it was 8lb 3oz and my preferred finish that was a bonus.

At my age now and was having to play 4 hour Bar/Club Gig's having light weight Bass, Amp and Cab that I am content with performance seems a smart decision and make my Gigging/rehearsing and at home time more enjoyable

People are wasting your time asking about weight only because you are too damned lazy to weigh your bass before you put out an ad.

I have no problem weighing the basses without even being asked . I appreciate that it matters to some so if I were to sell on here I would gladly weigh the bass . My point is that on other platforms , I have never been asked . The best deal I ever did was on the sale of a Jazz bass that tipped the scales at just over 11 1/2lbs . Plenty of interest and sold for top dollar . Buyer very happy . Not one of the dozen or so potential buyers asked about the weight .

Other platforms tend to be more opaque about the sales process than TB. On TB you can get a much clearer view of what is important to buyers because it's a forum and mostly publicly interactive. If you don't include a weight then people who care about it are probably going to just skip over your ad and you'll never know. Which is what I do for every Reverb or craigslist listing that doesn't include weight. People might make an exception if it's a rare, coveted instrument, but otherwise they'll probably find a listing that does include the weight and pick from the lowest.

I always include the weight in my listings, no matter the platform. It's easy to add, shows forthrightness, and I want the instrument to sell as soon as possible. It's just another spec that is important to a market segment and there's no reason to force potential buyers to ask questions that I can easily anticipate.
