today it's low 90s but 58% humidity, and supposed to rain Sunday so it's gonna get soupy tomorrow nite...

That is right. Did an outside gig....92 at start at 9pm. Cooled to 80 at midnight. Shorts. It was a beach bar party so everyone (except our guitarist) was in shorts. I look geeky, or I would have did a gig report. All went well, but I was in shorts.

Wow and my sympathies to all who have to play in unusually high temperature venues. Been there, done that and for some reason most venues never seem to have the AC or fans directed at the stage, which always feels 10 degrees hotter that the rest of the venue plus you're generating you are own heat playing your heart out.

Don't hate me but.....our show tomorrow 3pm to 6pm has
our forecast for Sunset Beach, CA is 70 degrees at downbeat around 3 pm and probably dropping a few degrees by shows end 6-630pm. Nice cool breezes and ice cold beer. Oh, and we'll get paid to enjoy this delightful show.

"Sweating is good for you, cleanses out the impurities from you body"....just keep telling yourself that during the show......

As it turned out our show yesterday at the cool 70 degree beach was packed wall to wall and out the doors with people. No wind or air movement.
No AC or Fans on the small stage. It felt like 90+ degrees. It was stifling hot, I was sweating like crazy and barely had room to stand on my one spot which was 1 foot from my amp to play my bass. To top it off, the bar was doing so well, they asked us to play an extra hour.
We did and got extra pay. I'm sure my bass headstock hit or brushed by at least 10 people.

This weather is no joke, folks. I'm playing tonight and it's gonna be in the 90's. No A/C. I can do it, but I'm worried for our drummer who had open heart surgery about 10 weeks ago, and has only played the last two weeks with us (in a much better room!). We have a sub on pedal steel tonight, who is also a great drummer. We're gonna tell our guy to stop when he's fatigued, the show WILL go on. Me, I'm suckin' down water all day, hoping to emulate a camel. I'll bring a cooler with water, sport drinks and ice, a fan mounted on an amp stand, a sweat towel, some sugary snacks, etc. I may even have to break a cardinal rule of mine and wear cargo shorts and a tee shirt. It's a campground ... half the audience will be shirtless ... the wrong half! No boots and Stetson tonight folks, sorry!

We all did. Fortunately, they had 42" fans in two corners. Unfortunately, they were the corners behind the band, and we had to watch mic orientation or the wind got into them. And contrary to what I said in another thread here, I DID carry the drummer's hardware bag. At least he has the sense to split it into two ...

It was still hot enough to send the campers back to their sites by 9:00. We supposed to play 6:30-10:30. The guy who hired came over at the break at 9 and said "it's dwindling, why not play a few more and call it a night". I was on the road by 9:45 with full pay. Cool.

Canada Day at Balsam Resort......well over 100 degrees F but there was a breeze. First pic was late in the gig and I had an umbrella failure. Played for almost 6 hours and had a great crowd and great hospitality. Booked back next year.

First time I have ever played in shorts and sandals, but it seemed appropriate. Went shirtless for a while but my bass was just sticking to me!

We're semi-outdoors today ... it's one of those "rustic chic" barn reception gigs. Thankfully temps are looking very fair with a high of 78 and unexpectedly lower humidity for this time of year. Still a suit & tie gig though ...

Haha, that sounds familiar! I did a fill-in gig last night for some friends on "Dirty 6th" (Street) and it was a full bar with a small(er) stage, also playing later than expected. I'm pretty sure I smacked a few people with my headstock too, though lucky they were beautiful women and that somehow seemed to attract them (maybe adding to the "live music" thing for out-of-towners?).

THANK GOD I had my Lasko blower fan! That's the one piece of gear I won't play without (only thing more important is a bass, and even that's debatable on some of these summer shows!).
