Well, it's over...

My thoughts are with you and your family, Matt. I'm going through something similar with my Mom, who is dying from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as a result of a lifetime of smoking. I have some TB buds (namely NJL and Thor) who I email/talk with outside of TB and they have been very supportive and helpful. Friends are a good thing to have in times like these, and you've got a bunch of 'em here at TB.

I've heard that because cancer takes such a long time to kill, the family usually begins to mourn well before the victim dies. So in a way, this is a good thing for you. I hope that this can help you to get over the pain and sadness, and move on to the more positive aspects of you life.

Remember, he was and always will be your dad, and you can be thankful for the time you had with him. I know you said "don't say sorry," but right now that's the best word for the sympathy I feel right now. I've lost 3 friends to cancer, and it hasn't gotten any easier. PM at any time if you want to talk.

Eric

Aw man, Matt. This is where the inadequecies of typed communication really show through. All the things that come to mind sound lame and trite in print. I guess they all boil down to: 'Eventually things will be better again.' and 'I'll pray for your family.'

I hope there is comfort to be found in that.

Matt,

I'm sorry to hear about your loss and I know how it feels. I lost my Dad a little over two years ago to lung cancer. He had went to the hospital the summer before and checked himself in because he knew something wasn't right. He told me that "something was killing him". Well after a three day stay in the hospital to be checked and tested he was told that he was just "run down". About six months later he went to the doctor with a pain in his arm, which turned out to be a tumor and there were many more all over him. Six weeks later he was gone. I'll pray for you and your family with the heart of someone who has been there. God Bless.
