I wasn't in the military myself but I watched my dad serve 24 years active duty in the Navy and then spend another 17 years working for the Navy as a civilian. I can appreciate the commitment.

For those who've asked, our next stop is Omaha, Nebraska (sorry JT). My wife has another 10 years active duty before she retires, so we'll be in the neighborhood of Offutt AFB.
As far as my plans, gigging and photography. I have a few gigs lined up, and I'm very interested in shooting band promo material (since so much of what I've seen is terrible!) and portraits. Although I'm talking to a company right now about some product photography that will interest bass players everywhere

Congrats!
See if you can make it into the Chicago music scene to shoot pictures. While other markets dry up, we're still making music of all genres and there is always plenty of well paid work for experienced musicians and anything music related.

No problem. In the years leading up to 2001, the Army had changed drastically. Micromanagement and corporatism were the order of the day, as was the lack of emphasis on the primary mission of bands, music. In all honesty, I left the military with no intention of "changing over." My wife pursued the Air Force thing, and I thought "why not? I'd get a retirement after 6 years" (I'd spent 14 in the Army) Once I got in, I saw how much different the AF was, and I loved it.
