Metalhead in high school. 82-85. Very good time coming of age in that day. Untied high top shoes, tight pin leg jeans, t-shirts, jean jackets. Long hair. I liked to listen to the hair bands (and so did the girls) but never got into the fashion. If out with the boys, hard rock and metal all the way. Cheap cars, cheap beer, loud music. A little smoke. Still like the music.
Hells yeah! In junior high, I was totally into Shout At The Devil and Iron Maiden. During freshman year of high school, somebody gave me a bootlegged tape of Kill 'Em All and it was on! I still have that tape. I thought it sounded bad back then, but now that it's over 20 years old...
In early HS I was a big metalhead, but in the Jeans + metal shirts + Long hair variety, not so much leather/studs/etc
Now I'm into all sorts of types of music, still love metal (Lots of Prog metal) and wear nicer shirts.

Yup. Hs was 81 to 85 and I was metal every minute of it. Long hair, jeans, leather & boots. Pioneer Super Tuner in the Camaro and a full tank of gas, I was good to go.

Nope. Metal wasn't around yet. '71 - '74
I was into hard rock: Who, Zep, Deep Purple, Grand Funk, Steppenwolf - the ancestors.
Plus I was more into Prog, Psychedelic, Soul, Fusion and Pop.
Heard "Rush" all summer at keggers in '74, but didn't like Geddy's voice. Liked the playing tho.
They kind of disappeared from the scope until MTV came around.
Black Sabbath was around and my younger mates listened to 'em. I thought they, like Kiss, were total comic book. Just didn't do anything for me.
The bands in the MTV metal heyday were totally ridiculous tho I kinda liked Scorps and Def Lep
But most writing was just a bunch of fast riffs and no meat, or growly spitting dirge. Nah - I was more into Funk, Punk and Wave by then.
I was into hard rock: Who, Zep, Deep Purple, Grand Funk, Steppenwolf - the ancestors.
Plus I was more into Prog, Psychedelic, Soul, Fusion and Pop.

I listen to classic rock and metal mainly (quite a bit of Rush too, kinda in the middle)
I wear band t-shirts and jeans and hang with the metal group.
No studs no leather (cept a jacket) none of that over the top stuff.
Albeit I like what I am better this then being a superficial ***hole who constantly looks in the mirror and wears all that American eagle, Hollistar, Abercombie over priced crap.
I'm not a show off I'm down to earth and not cocky, if anything I should be put in the musician group moreso since my range is getting wider heheh.
Love how i can listen to Bloodlust by Venom, Elimination by Overkill, then go right into some Miles Davis and then Tarkus By Emerson Lake and Palmer. hehehe my friends call me weird from going to HEAVY mindless thrash to some nice well structured jazz

my favorite band was Black Sabbath (both with Ozzy and Dio) followed closely by Pink Floyd, Yes, Led Zeppelin Jethro Tull and Rush... and the typical WNEW and K-Rock playlists.

'88-'92 for me. So that meant the end of Hair Metal through the beginning of Grunge/Alternative.
My playlist evolved from Van Halen, to Whitesnake, to Zeppelin to GnR, to Metallica, Anthrax and Testament. Then I got into Living Colour, Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, King's X, Fishbone, Chilli's and Primus. So whatever you want to call those bands-Hard Alternative? Progressive Hard Rock? I was wearing black T-shirts, denim jackets and growing my hair long so I guess I was a Metal Head for a bit. But I was also listening to Rush, Jaco, Stanley Clarke and mom's 60s soul records.

heh... I was a Goth... I always laugh at what a complete tool I was back then.

BTW, I was a metal head then and I still am now. I even still have my long hair!

Actually I bought 'Born Again' on vinyl within a month of it's release... and replaced it on CD too. I like it, but with only one disc of that line up, Ian is still the voice of Deep Purple to me
