Well.. I tried it for a while, and I came to the conclusion that I lose too much in the higher frequencies- presence and bite- with this in the bass to make it a good trade off. I don't think it matters what sophisticated design it has, all that added mass dampens the whole sound of the bass, not just the wolf. Unlike Krentz's demonstration, I didn't find that there really was any "off" position with the device in the bass when compared to not having it there at all. This is just my experience on my bass. I think I will be returning it to the shop.

Jon,
Have you had any success using the Brass/Afterlength type of Eliminator on your bass? I don't know how or why they work, but I did have pretty good results, back when I had a WT.
I guess the physics of adding any mass to the top plate results in a aural loss of some frequency/-ies. That is not an acceptable trade-off for most of us.

Yeah, the brass ones work, but it is a bit of the same story. I only played around with it once, I suppose I could try again.
The more you smooth out the wolf, the more you subtract from the total power and presence, in my experience. Though it would be nice to be able to use the Aflat on my A string.

I don't want to jinx myself, but my wolf seems to have gone away. I do have three small cable clamps on the three top strings ( I wish I could figure out how to send pics on TB. I can't find any info or stickies on the site). They may have done the trick, or could it be that I've had the window in my music room open for the past few weeks? Perhaps having little artificial heat (forced air heat) combined with humid outside air may have changed something in the wood?
I have a band function on Monday so I don't want to experiment now. But on Tuesday I will remove the "home made "eliminators" one at a time. If the wolf comes back, I'll know it or they have worked. If it stays gone without the clamps, I'll know it was the wood and the humidity.
Does that sound logical?
