La bella stainless Steels for me

My preferred stainless set is DAddario Prosteels. I keep them on my fretted 5 string for when I need a modern sound when recording. They are awesome.

Favorite stainless flats are Labella 760FL, favorite stainless rounds are Labella M45 (used to be Hard Rockin Steel, now simply called stainless). These are my fav picks after 28 years of expensive experimentation.

Dean Markley SR2000s. First tried these when I found them in the discount bin. Super clean, crisp sound. Didn't last as long as I'd liked, but certainly more than Rotosound 66s!

My favorite stainless strings are all flat wounds - which I'm sure isn't what you wanted to hear... Nevertheless, if they're going to be stainless, it's GHS Precision Flats and La Bella DTFs for me. Stainless rounds? Not allowed on my basses...

Been using Ken Smith Rockmaster Medium Stainless Steel Roundwounds on most of my basses since 1985. Every time I think "Hmm, it's been a long time, maybe there's something new I'll like better" it turns out I'm wrong.
I like the Smiths because they settle in quickly (but not too drastically) and then retain that sound forever. They're what everyone wishes Rotosounds could be.

Unfortunately, my favourite Stainless Steel roundwounds are now out of production... namely Fender 7350M's. , And my stockpile is dwindling!

I did try some NOS Elites Stadiums (got them cheap), but they just didn't cut through as the Fenders did. Ordered some Dunlop DBS Stainless Steel's, in the hope that they sound similar to the Fenders.

Why do I like the Fender strings?

They sounded great, bright, growly & lasted for at least 6 months with no noticeable fall off in sound. Best of all, they were relatively inexpensive compared to other brands (and make it less of a hit when buying in bulk).

I did use Warwick Red Label Stainless, which were cheaper, lasted a similar amount of time, sounded pretty good too, but they were quite rough on the fingers. Would buy them again though.

I used to love Roto Swing66, but they were shredding my fingers. It's not even the roughness, skin peeled of my fingertips even with very little play and super light touch, so I suspected something in chemical composition. Never investigated further. Also, at some point (probably around 2010) I started getting too many bad ones, almost every other set was half dead. Love the company, love the tone, bad moments in my personal experience though.
Then I went into D'Addario ProSteels exclusively for a few years, since I already used them on some basses and was happy. Inexpensive, sold everywhere, nice tone if lacking some texture and complexity in the midrange. Making up with airy chime high up that Rotos don't quite reach. Then I tried Dunlop Superbrights Marcus Miller signature set and never looked back, at least for my "rounds" bass. Chime of the ProSteels, midrange of the Rotos, waaaay more durable than either and easy on the fingers.

I doubt you'll find anything that beats the longevity of SS Elixirs. Mine were quite good for 9 months.

How would you describe the SS Elixers at first and do they hold that tone for a while?

They were incredibly bright. With a pick they sounded like the laser sounds from Star Wars.
That sound was made by hitting a telephone pole guy wire with a crescent wrench.

Me also came from the Swing 66 SS lover, then ProSteels (then FlexSteels in quite a while), and now MM Super Bright.

But me still have a curiosity about the non-MM version of Super Bright SS. Have you tried these also?
