YES to YES!!!! Definitely one of the greatest albums ever made!

Everybody hates this album, but... Metallica's St Anger.

It came out at a particularly dark period in my life. My wife and I were about to split up (a couple signatures away from it), I was being a total screw up, almost getting fired from work, etc...

I'll never argue that the production or anything on it is great, but the lyrics sounded like they were written specifically for me. James was going through rehab, and he gets really personal and introspective. The bridge to "Unnamed Feeling" can still make me cry if I hear it at the right/wrong time. The "Get the f*** out of here, I just wanna get the f*** away from me" part.

Sorry to hear about your loss. When my Mom passed away, 24 years ago, I listened to Edgar Winter's "They Only Come Out At Night". She actually liked that album...so, it was like connecting to her through music.

For me, the answer to your question is L.A.M.F. by the Heartbreakers. At least, that's something I listen to when I feel like I need a boost.

The first song I thought of was "Ships" by Ian Hunter. It's a beautiful song about a man's relationship with his father, and it has an ocean theme. So close to home and your current situation, but sometimes that's the best thing. Let the tears flow, it's all good.

Good choice going with "Rocks." By far my favorite Aerosmith record.

Mine would be just about anything by The Beatles. They're that ever present soundtrack to my life. They've just always been there. There's something so peaceful and reassuring in Sir Paul's voice.

Maybe because I do music for a living, I'm always trying to push forward and listen to new sounds, new music, almost a little superstitious about revisiting the old formative music of my youth. However, when my Mom and Dad passed away recently, I dunno, without thinking I just put on Close to the Edge, and it was immediately healing and empowering. It was the album that changed my teenaged life. It was like the sun came out when I put it on the turntable.
