What are you doing while in isolation?

Outside of essential reasons, I'm hanging out at home. I was so bored yesterday that I spread out some of the snow on my lawn so it would melt faster...
I have to high spot on my dirt driveway the the cars have been bottoming out for on for 7 years. Yesterday I levelled it out. Without the virus I'm sure I could have gone 7 more.

Trying to shop for 10 days at a time. working from home. wishing I hadn't bought sound company liability insurance for this season... hmmm, maybe should cancel that Monday...
We are trying out the online ordering and parking lot pick up at WalMarts and another local grocer. Only few bucks more and you don't even have to walk in the door to get stuff. Hope it works out...both the wife and I are high risk cases.

I'm hoping that n95 mask and gloves, then clorox wipes when back in the car do the trick.

I'm also doing a dirty side / clean side unpacking and washing routine. Un bag, unbox as much as possible outside. Stuff like store bought bread, that is in a bag with a liner over the loaf, open the bag, dump the loaf out onto the clean side, dispose of the bag. same for cereal or really anything that is bag in a bag or bag in a box.

canned or frozen goods get wiped down with a solution soaked rag. recycle the rags through the laundry. old Tee shirts and bleach solution.

from my perspective, veg is harder. hard shell stuff can be washed. outter leaves of cabbage can be removed. broccoli, I'm washing and then steam for preparation (and hope that is enough) thin skinned fruit like apples are more problematic. not really sure what to do other than a good long washing.

interesting times. stuff I certainly have never had to think about. as ex ski patrollers ages past, we practiced dirty side, clean side technique in the patrol room. We also used bleach solution as we were patrolling in HIV, Hepatitus C times. So at least part of this make sense to me.

I've been watch a fair amount of ER doc produced video on the topic of how to stay safe. In amongst all the BS there is some good actually information out there...

stay safe!

It looks like I might have gotten my hopes up too, some sources are only calling for 8 degrees tomorrow.
Here is our 'white stuff' from 2 weeks ago. Destin fl, before the beaches were closed.

Myself and my wife are still working, both our jobs are considered essential.

Band wise, were getting a list of new covers together and the guitar player and I are introducing some original material to the new drummer and singer. This is stuff we wrote together years ago that hasn't been heard by anyone other than Rob (guitarist) and myself.

My plan in December was to apply for SS age 62 and cut my hours down to 10 a week at work starting the first of April would my first check hits.

So I applied and was approved right about the time the coronavirus news came out. By mid February I had seen enough in the news that I knew I couldn't stay at my current job. I'm high risk and so was the job.

Last shift was March 8th and I left on good terms with the boss.

Ok financially, but waiting this out was going to nibble on my humble nest egg until I go back to work part time. But, the 1200 buck check from Uncle Sam took care of that thru June.

So the only upheaval in my plan was retiring from full-time a month early.

I'm just passing the time doing all the things I was going to do starting in April anyway. Cleaning, tossing junk I'll never use or be able to sell, exterior work on my house I'm renting. Painting the inside after all that is done. Landlord buys everything to get it all done.

I do have a bass problem though. I sold my only Bass to fund a bass that was listed on Craigslist locally, and by luck, the guy sold it right before I contacted him lol ..I prefer to buy an instrument in person but it looks like I'll just have to order one.

Probably write a few songs. Set up an old Yamaha acoustic that sounds great.

Last night we had a virtual cocktail party with a couple we know, using Facetime. My husband, housemate, and I all huddled around the kitchen table and spent 3.5 hours catching up with some old friends. It was great fun, and I encourage everyone to try something like this. Today has been mellow, just watching shows on Netflix on my laptop. I made some beef stew out of leftovers and we've been all grazing on that most of the day. A lazy day, which isn't a horrible thing.

My husband is very nervous about this virus; he's afraid he might get it, so he's watching some informational videos from health professionals that I hope will put his mind at ease. My understanding is that reasonable precautions will greatly reduce our risk, and I think he's getting that message, too.

I'm fortunate in that I get to work every day right now. I would rather work until the option is taken from me so that I can still provide for my family when I have no other choice to me. I fear that more than my limited exposure risk at work honestly.

At home I'm still doing the honey do's my wife has much more time to find for me :) It's enough. From an entertainment perspective I've watched a bit more programs but honestly I'm much more of a reader. Kindle is the perfect social distancing companion for me. Having said that I have watched all of Altered Carbon ( love both seasons ) and am about half way through Counterparts ( loving it so far ). Musically I've been learning some of the songs from artists I've been listening to the most the last year or so. Dopapod - Pigeons Playing Ping Pong and Euforquestra. They have been challenging and fun to figure out by just ear. Add Stick Figure and my re-submerging into 311 and that rounds out my bass playing focus lately.

Be safe out there friends.
