What are you drinking tonight?

My favorite.

I also enjoy:

My exposure to other whiskeys has been some what limited. JD was the first whiskey that I could stomach, after a few glasses I started to really like the stuff. Now I'm salivating thinking about it :).

Is it odd that I don't like JW Red Label?

JW Red is rough, almost deliberately so. It's best with a mixer.

I'm probably going to start this weekend off with a couple of Blue Moons. (It was raining, so I went to the closest liquor store and that's the best stuff they carry that's both drinkable and fiancee-friendly).

Looks cool, where are these from?

Makes me urge for a hobgoblin, a black sheep, an old speckled hen or a hen's tooth... no wait one of each!:smug:

I dunno about the Moylan's but Rogue is a renowned craft brewery out of Newport OR...You can usually find their stuff warm in large bottles even in the regular liquor store. They are very pricey but they make a damn fine beer.

Moylan's is a brewery in Northern Cali that specializes in Scottish and Irish type brews + an incredible amount of hops. They actually have a brew called "Hopsickal" which is like hop wine. I actually really love the bitter taste of hops so it is good for me. I think Moylans will probably get pretty big in the next couple of years.

Rogue is (IMO) the best brewery in the United States right now. I travel a lot and taste local stuff from all over but Rogue is still #1. You can get their "Deadguy Ale" in most stores on the West Coast and their other brews at specialty shops around the country.

I'll remember this if I ever make to the US:)
Plenty of hop here in Belgium though!!!!

My usual, Appleton Estate (Jamaican) rum and club soda on the rocks. Delicious!

Occasionally, I like a little shot of Irish whiskey, neat. A fave brand is Red Breast. It's like drinking silk. I'm a big fan of good cognac and armagnac (which aren't generally in my budget), and this whiskey is as smooth and full flavoured as either of those, and way more affordable. I appreciate a good single malt Scotch (Oban, Lagavulin, etc.) but something in Scotch gives me a wicked headache after only a few sips. Anyone have any ideas what ingredient that might be? I find it interesting that I have no such reaction to Irish, or any other kind of whiskey. Only Scotch. Maybe it's something to do with the way it's prepared?

A previous post (or two) mentioned Scotch ales. Any of you guys tried Innis & Gunn? It's a Scottish amber ale brewed in whiskey casks and it's really tasty.
