Just getting into
Beyond the Mechanical Mind -
again. Not since the early eighties have I plundered the riches of this obscure compendium. It was stolen from me by an erstwhile friend - Justin. I hope you got something out of it, you rotten sod.

is a bit of a giveaway — Pythonesque, a little twisted classical de rigueur for good measure. Seventies psychedelia found its way even into
scientific symposia — Well. it

From the back cover,
Social movements and fashionable trends come and go. But there are indications that a more far-reaching "new consciousness" is developing in our culture—an emergent social awareness that Western society as we have known it has become denuded of a coherent, human system of values.
How widespread is the revolt against the mechanistic world-view that has been the dominant reality principle in our culture? The basis of this investigation into a new consciousness by the Australian Broadcasting Commission's Special Projects Department is an inquiry into the forms it could take—the ecological and global community developments; explorations into the potentials of the mind and the creative imagination; the growth of interest in alternative belief systems like Buddhism, yoga, magic and shamanism; the research into new healing techniques; the breakdown of "technocracy" and new directions in the philosophy of science…
All makes for an interesting spin around the digs. Certainly did way back
then. And it's gonna be a spin this time around too, I imagine. There have been some repercussions with all this new-fangled science. Theories tested.
With this book I got to learn about biorhythms and go astral traveling — which we'd probably call lucid dreaming today — and stuff like coffee took on a whole new meaning
