What are you reading Chapter 4

"The Hero With a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell which is an analysis of myths and legends across all human cultures and the common themes and symbols within. It really shows how unified people are by basic human nature, common human experience, and a fundamental spirituality that permeates all religion and mythologies.

"Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void" by Mary Roach which is a humorous journalistic telling of the most absurd but true stories and facts about sending squishy meat bags which are incredibly unsuited to space travel into space.

"The Complete Kobzar" poetry by Taras Shevchenko and translated by Peter Fedynsky.

I'm one of those weird people that may read multiple books at once.

When I was young I thought I was a fan of Clive Barker's work, but TBH maybe I was wrong.
Recently I read about halfway through what he considers his best novel, Imajica.
I kept waiting for something to make it interesting, but it just got more & more weird, kind of like how Stephen King movies seem to end.

Everville is ok so far, but if starts getting too weird I'm giving up on reading C.B. novels.

Loved Packing for Mars.

I'm reading Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey, the sixth book in the Expanse series. Just started, but so far so good.

This is an incredible book because it focuses on the similarities between cultures rather than highlighting the superficial differences. I wish more people would read it and hear its message. Enjoy!

Just finished "Hillbilly Elegy". The author grew up in Middletown Ohio (after his family migrated from rural Kentucky), Joined the Marines, and eventually went to Yale law school. Really good book, has a lot to say about the current state of American society, without being preachy, angry, or one-sided.

Also just finished "Tattoos on the Heart", written by a priest who lived and worked with gang members for 20 years in the worst part of LA. Very powerful and touching.

Anyone read the His Dark Materials trilogy? There's a new book. Anyone read it?
I saw that he added a new book. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but by the end of the trilogy thought he was going out of his way to bash Christianity rather than bring the series to a rewarding conclusion. Still, I'll probably have to read the new one once the price drops.

Yah I was cool with the bashing. I love those books. I'm a big fan of well developed fictional worlds. The price has kept me from getting it yet. I think the Kindle version is something like 17 bucks. I'll wait a while.
