What are you reading Chapter 4

I just scored another Sword of Shannara novel, by Terry Brooks. It's been aeons. Mr Brooks, who gets a fair walloping for these books being so similar to the Lord of the Rings, was a fave, once upon a time. I guess it's true but I liked these books back then.

He wrote Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace so they can't be that bad. I've retreaded the old noggin but I'll give them another run, I think. Just for fun. I have Wishsong tucked away somewhere, unread, and a couple of others, which may get an airing too, if all goes well.

There’s a writer called Hugh Howey. He’s books are cheap or free on kindle unlimited. The first thing I read from him was called Wool. Post apocalyptic world with people living in giant buried silos because the planet when to ****. Great books. Highly recommended. Now I’m reading one called Beacon 23. It’s in the future. There are navigation beacons all over the galaxy and a war hero with PTSD requested the assignment to work alone on the beacon/space light house. Also great. Check out Hugh Howey.

Wool was excellent.

I'm just starting this https://www.amazon.com/Heart-Sea-Tragedy-Whaleship-Essex/dp/0141001828

If Sword of Shannara is anywhere near LOTR quality, sign me up! My interest is now officially piqued...

I've been all over the map lately, reading several genres at the same time.

Gateway by Frederik Pohl...again

I'm a third of the way through Beyond the Blue Event Horizon as we speak. One of my favorite Sci Fi adventures of all time. I HATE that they are still ( with the exception of two books ) not available in ebook form. Thankfully I have several copies in print form :)

As I mentioned I've been all over the map lately with Genre.

Currently reading:
Sci Fi - Pohls Heechee books ( amazing! ) and Stephan R Donaldson's Gap Series ( also excellent )
Fantasy - Stephan R Donaldsons Chronicles of Thomas Covnenant books ( Right up there for all time favs )
Biograpical (ish) - The Reaper - Nicholas Irving ( Interesting so far - if you're into war stories/history - I am )
Science - The God Equation - Michio Kaku ( I'll read anything he writes. I'm a big fan )

I've read those too. Great stuff. Ever read any Peter F. Hamilton? Some very imaginative stuff there. I highly recommend the "The Night's Dawn" trilogy starting with The Reality
Dysfunction.

I have not, and now I own the first book in the series :) Thanks for that!

This is a shot in the dark recommendation as it's likely you have read it, but if not, Robert L Forwards Dragons Egg and Starquake are exceptionally good sci fi.

The original Shannara Trilogy is great.. You might also want to check out Alan Dean Fosters Spellsinger, Mcafreys Pern, The Thomas Covenant series by Donaldson, Roger Zelazny's Amber series, Silverbergs Majipoor Chronicles, Fritz Leibers Fafhrd and Grey Mouser series and Michael Moorcocks Elrick/Eternal Champion stuff.
