I just started a book about a guy who just got filthy rich selling his company, paid for his head to be cryogenically frozen for future revival if he dies, gets hit by a car, and wakes up after having his consciousness copied into a computer in 2133 where America is a fundamentalist Christian theocracy. Pretty good so far.

I read half of it today. It’s great. Hard sci fi. No relationship drama, yet anyway. Real legit science fiction. It’s light hearted and a little goofy but takes itself and the subject seriously. It’s one of the most enjoyable reads I’ve read in a long time. Free on kindle unlimited and I think 5 bucks to buy.

Technically I believe so but I already had the other books and I just bought The Silmarillion a few days ago. This will be my first time reading it. I've heard it can be a tough read.

I’ve tried getting through Tolkien. I can’t do it. I don’t like the writing style or the characters.

On Tolkien, while I've great admiration for the entire creation of his universe, I'd have to say that I don't think he's that great a writer.
My favourite of his is The Hobbit, essentially a simple children's tale.
The rest? Too many elves...
That said, I've enjoyed Peter Jackson's take on the whole thing immensely, and have spent many many hours playing the online game, which also brings Middle Earth to life very well.

I read the Silmarillion once, out of sheer bloody-minded-ness. Once was once too often.
