When I picked up the first book of Martin's series (A Game of Thrones), I could hardly put it down. I stayed up through a 24hour cycle just so I could finish it.

I "lucked out" when I first started reading this series last fall. I was unemployed, so I was job searching/interviewing during the day, reading Double R till the sun dawns, then going to sleep. The books are so good; I think I set a personal "pages read in a day" record of 400 pages with Storm of Swords. The majority of which were read while my roomate was getting a tatto at Last Rites here in NYC, where they play gloomy atmospheric stuff mixed with all-things-metal. It fit the atmosphere of the end of that book almost too well!

Dance of Dragons needs to come out NOW!

The God Delusion; by Richard Dawkins

Read something arguing the opposite after that. Dawkins is an armchair philosopher - at best - who, in groups of people who wholly agree with him, pokes fun at people who disagree. There are plenty of philosophers who make good arguments against God. Dawkins neither makes a good argument, nor is he even a philosopher.

I will probably do that soon also. But since the french version of the book will probably be out only in october or november there is no rush.

Just finished Stephen King's IT. Good book - love how he weaves back and forth between time periods. And oh so sadistic.

A guy I work with said the made-for-TV version was one of "the best adaptations" he's ever seen. I read the book and borrowed the DVD from the library afterwards and I can say now the guy I work with is either a liar or a complete idiot.

I kept wondering just how they were going to bring this to life on screen, on TV. The answer: Badly.

BTW, a young Seth Green was in the TV version as Ritchie Tozier.

I'm finishing Jon Stewart's America

And I'm going to start:
Prime green - remembering the sixties by Robert Stone
or (thanks to another TBers post)
The physics of immortality - modern cosmology, God, and the resurrection of the dead by Frank J. Tipler
whichever one comes in first from the library.

So many books, so little time. Truly.

The bad part is: Your friend was right. That was about the best adaptation of any of Stephen King's books. Every single one of the movies made from his books just absolutely sucked seaweed. As horrible as IT was, it was probably the best one.

You really want to be disappointed? Read 'The Stand' and then rent the movie.

I admit to not having seen them, been too disappointed with other adaptations. I'll have to give them a try.

Ditto. I gave up on any adaptations of his stuff after probably Pet Sematery. (Yes I know that word is supposed to be cemetery, but I believe it was misspelled in the title.)
