What are your "Always On" effects?

True, but if it's always on, is it that much different than say the EQ on your amp? If you have an effect that is always on, I would say that it's part of your sound as it's always there.

Not trying to be a DB, I'm just posing a question about what is an effect.

If it modifies your signal (gain, modulate, octave, etc), it is an effect. The preamp section of your bass amp is an effect. The difference here is we are talking about "pedals".

If one was truly "No Effects", they would be plugging straigth into a power amp.

Personally, I think it's a great combination together.

I seem to prefer that setup (TH into the VT as opposed to the other way around). The Tone Hammer EQs my bass signal and adds a bit of bite to my tone before it hits the VT and to my ears seems to be more versatile in shaping than if I were trying to EQ the VT. Any tone adjustments I make on the fly are done then with the TH (so I can leave the somewhat touchy VT alone).

The downside is that it pretty much negates the XLR out on the TH if the combo of the two tones is what I'm trying to get (which it is). For recording I do the same positions, I'm just essentially using the TH for it's EQ, and then I feed those both in line to a separate DI (Kind of silly, but I like the way it sounds).

My SansAmp BDDI is always on when I play my bass. It makes my small boring amp sound great! And it adds more awesome rocking growl to my Jazz bass's twang.

I agree. Used to not care for the BDDI but these days I like how it's sounding.

my VT Bass, which I use as pre-amp. if I ever star doing some serious regular gigging i'll probably get a comp, so as to improve consistency and beef the tone a bit, due to too much jumping around when playing

I never used to have an "always on" pedal. However, as I have the cleanest solid-state amp that has ever been made, and that isn't an exaggeration, I needed a little grit. Towards that end, I now have a Catalinbread Formula no. 5 (which likes my SG) and a Way Huge Red Llama clone (which doesn't like my SG, but it does sound nice). They are always on.

I have 3 always on pedals. Boss LS2, Boss NS-2 and VT Bass for me. Was going to try a BDDI recently 'till I realised it didn't have a mids knob. Wouldnt of minded the XLR out though.

Still deciding on the Noise suppressor, whether I really need it or not.
