15s are not slower than any other speaker size just because of the size. This is a common misconception, such as underpowering. The transient response of a speaker is dependent only on the inductance of the driver. If you get a GOOD 15 it will not be significantly slower than any other size.
This goes back to my previous post about speaker sizes. Take any ideas you have about how a speaker will perform based on its size and throw them out the window. A speaker's frequency response, transient response and other characteristics have nothing to do with the speaker's size, rather they are byproducts of the designs that usually accompany those sizes.

The 15's I have played so far are pretty doggy and un-inspiring, but then again I have played some bad 10's too;)

I like the look of your amps, dude. Some bass players might scoff at the loudness of a 70w amp, but I regularly play a B-15N and I know how loud they can get. Hope it turns out for you.

When I had a Bassman 10, I learned that 70w is quite a bit through efficient speakers............
Unfortunately despite all of the volume that amp sounded awful.
Of course, a 70w tube amp that regularly retails for $350 cannot be expected to work wonders.............

They sound surprisingly conventional. Not nearly as radical as they make themselves out to be. That said, they are very good cabs. (They better be at that price:eek:)

It's stopping for me pretty soon, I think. I need to branch out to stuff other than bass stuff. I would love to get my studio a little more together but I always get distracted by bass or guitar gear.

Yeah, I'm with you...although the studio has pretty much been taken care of....

24 track recorder - Mics - software - anymore and my Wife will (literally) kill me....:help:

You know, there's something to ponder....I believe that you and I are in the "general" age range - did you EVER think that we would have stuff like multi-track recorders in our HOMES!?!?! Geezzz......we've come a long way, baby....

I can record up to two tracks at once and I have 4 mics and a cheap mic preamp...any more and my wife would kill me, too. She says that's enough to record Howard Stern parodies and songs nobody but me will hear ;)

Hey Brekfust......, I mentioned 5's in post #32.

Ark Amps.. You should listen to some good 15's before ruling them out. I'm not sure I understand what people mean when they say 15's are slow? How fast are these guys playing? I had a tweeterless 1 x 15 cab which kept up with any frantic slap lines that I could throw at it (during my Mark King phase) and sounded great with firm bass, tight mids and snappy top end. As a single cab solution I prefer a 410 over a 115 over a 210.

It sounds like you've been out of the loop on speakers, especially bass speakers for a while.

There are a bunch of great sounding high wattage, full range speakers out there these days.

...the age of "big means slow and low" is pretty well dead now. I use a Bergantino HT115 that is a very full range and quick cab (quicker than my old 4/10 ever was. Also, 12's have become very much a popular bass speaker size in the past 5 years or so...

The other thing that's new in bass cabinet design? People actually designing speaker cabinets correctly instead of making rectangles that hold speakers. It makes a world of difference, and the 'just a cab' school of cabinet building is a thing of the past.

How this for bucking the misconception of slow, muddy 15's and fast, clear 10's?

I use a 115 cab as my mid-range and a 210 cab for my lows in my bi-amp setup.

Full range, I prefer 215's or two 115's and they aren't boomy, muddy or slow in the least.
