I like simple: VT Bass + MXR M82, with just a hint of the Boss Chorus that's always on for body.

Those will definitely be the pedals for you then! I used to not be too big on bass distortions either, but after a while some I've kind of gotten into the weird synthy ones haha. I'll have to check out that Ringworm soon!Yeah, I was looking into the Mantra as well, honestly what has me sold on the Soundblox Pro Envelope Filter is the 6 presets. I know with the Mantra you can MIDI it out and get like over 100+ settings. Requires a few extra things in addition to the pedals. I've heard these two used together well to get a variety of your classic Synth Bass tones, that's about the only reason I have the Distortion on here. Again, maybe I haven't fooled around with a good one but I'm not too big on Bass Distortion either but I am a tweaker and love messing with knobs. I had a Way Huge Ringworm Ring Modulator a while back, THAT was a fun pedal to mess with!

To everyone, on the other hand I was kind of thinking of going with a smaller board (funnily with more pedals) to keep things smaller. Just a thought. I just put all MXR pedals because I have a ton somebody gave me a bunch of them so I would already have half of them and could later upgrade if I found a better option. Any thoughts?

The title of the thread was asking what others are using, so I listed what I am using.
I've never used the Pro Envelope Filter and can't afford a deep impact.
When I think of Funk, I think of Bootsy and am trying to think of what I've heard him use. I think he has used Envelope filters, Octave, Wah/AutoWah maybe?, some kind of Moog modulators?, Distortion/Fuzz, chorus. I think he used a mutron so 3leaf's other envelope pedal may be better
Oh! Well I had just posted the pedalboard I was thinking about creating then you commented so I thought you were commenting on it. My fault! I do think of Bootsy as well and it's often been stated emulating his sound would cost a fortune from the amount of gear (especially Vintage) that he used so I'm not looking to exactly copy Bootsy in that aspect and yes, he did use a Mutron but I appreciate the comment, how do you like Wonderlove filter? What really drew me to the Soundblox is that you can have 6 presets (which is the only Filter I have found that has presets) and the vast amount of customization that it has but I currently have an MXR Envelope Filter, it is a great pedal!
Over the years Bootsy has used a bunch of different effects and probably endorsed even more. But in general he's pretty much always had octavers, fuzzes, filters and delays.
The difficulty in trying to cop something close to his tones is that he also usually splits his signal between lows, mids and highs with different effects on each as well as running multiple filters in parallel - generally one up and one down on the mids and/or highs.

Yeah, I understand all of that, that's why I said I wasn't trying to emulate Bootsy! haha, Way too many pedals and too much money to spend for my tastes!
Oh, yeah the Pro will have way more built in things. I'm not a tweeker so it's ok for me to have one or two go-to sounds and just flip between. I've read where people used both and liked both, even though they are different. I think the wonderlove is descended from the meatball. Compressors and dirt are pretty genre neutral I think. They work in many things other than funk, but to me things like Envelope filters/Wah/Moogs give a specific flavor that to me adds a particularly "funky flavor"

Totally just noticed you are from New Orleans! You ever messed around with Moog's Moogerfoogers? Those things are EXSPANSAVE!
The filter twin is the funkiest pedal I've used on a regular basis and I play more sabbathy music. Sometimes you just need some burp in your tone.
How do you like the MXR Brick? It looks a lot more compact than a Voodoo Lab.

That's how I felt using that Way Huge Ringworm Ring Modulator I posted earlier and it seems simple in comparison to a Moogerfooger!

I've been struggling to get a relevant funk tone out of the TFR for like a month and a half. What am I missing, aside from that your volume is lower than I run mine? If I run mine that low it seems to be below unity gain.
I mess the with volume a bit on the TFR, I like to have just a touch of fuzz, I also use the compressor to boost the signal a bit.
