hard to pick favorite Rush albums, but I'll make a list of the 1st 5 or 10 I would buy if I had to replace them one at a time.

- Caress of Steel - mostly due to Fountain of Lamneth, which is one of their best epics
- Snakes and Arrows Live - it's killer
- Counterparts - one of their best ever
- Presto - great album, some of Peart's best writing (the way he plays with words and still manages to write a cohesive song, e.g.Anagram (For Mongo))
-Fly By Night
- A Farewell to Kings
- Hemispheres
- Signals
- A show of Hands - live album that shows how great the GOP, Power Windows and Hold Your Fire songs that everyone slagged really were (Mission, Manhattan Project, Red Sector A, etc.)

Do you want progressive Rush, 70s hard rock Rush, keyboardy Rush, grunge Rush? There are many periods and many albums to suit.

Start with Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, and Hemispheres - those three are essential Rush, IMO.

After that, I'd pick from Signals (my personal favorite, but it is synth heavy), A Farewell to Kings, Fly By Night, 2112, Power Windows, and Presto.

A good rule of thumb with Rush is if you like one particular album a lot but aren't sure what to get next, consider going either forward one or back one album in the chronology.

I already have Permanent Waves, MP, ESL, and everything forward from Presto. I think Progressive Rush is where I want to go next. I really am interested in 2112, AFTK and Hemispheres. I had the debut album and 2112 when I was in high school but that was 25 years ago.

I'd give Vapor Trails an honorable mention, and really, Exit...Stage Left should be in there too. So hard to choose!

I actually think there are better albums than Grace Under Pressure, but it came out when I was a senior in HS, and we were so jacked for it, and it delivered. It just had a kind of aggression to it that perfectly fit that year for me. It was polished out the outside, but kind of raging on the inside.

EDIT: Am I the first to put Feedback? I know it's an album of covers but boy do they do a great job on them. The Rush version of Crossroads is a scorcher.
