Well... I don't see RICKENBACKER on that list....
(play one first, though; we don't need another grumpy ex-Rick owner around here...)
Wife asked me to start putting together my Christmas list and I'm thinking about adding a new bass. Nothing crazy expensive, less than $2000 certainly. But based on what I already have below, what would YOU recommend I add to my collection? New/current production only please. I couldn't imagine her looking for an old/vintage instrument lol

Thats an interesting list of choices. Vast price difference between the Squier/Sterling and the real EBMM..I will say with your budget, go with a used Ray. If you want to save money, go with the Sterling or the Squier..Wife asked me to start putting together my Christmas list and I'm thinking about adding a new bass. Lakland 44-02. Does the active Jazz thing very well, plus has a variety of other tones as well.Wife asked me to start putting together my Christmas list and I'm thinking about adding a new bass. I think you misunderstood the post. The four basses listed are what I currently own. I've asked for suggestions as to what I should acquire next to expand my collection.Thats an interesting list of choices. So I REALLY want to try a Ric. None to be found in the immediate area. May need to make a trip to Nashville to find one to test drive.I'll second this, and some of the other comments on here - Ric's (due to their pickup positions) have a sound (I could explain the Physics of this, but for now we'll avoid that) that you don't get from most basses. But definitely try it first - Ric's are very different, and you may find a show stopper or two that precludes you warming up to one. My first bass was a 4001, which I loved ( I didn't know anything different), but a few decades later, not having played one for quite a while, I tried one in a music store - the sound I like, but other things (hum, the sharp edges digging into my arm) turned me off. So, I have parts ordered for a build that will (hopefully) give me the parts of a Ric that I like, with none of the show stoppers.
Oops I did misread that sorry..Try the Ric. The one I played at Samash was sweet, didnt buy it though. I still may down the road..I think you misunderstood the post. The four basses listed are what I currently own. I've asked for suggestions as to what I should acquire next to expand my collection.
