What bass players do you think aren't mentioned enough?

What bass players do you feel like aren't brought up enough or deserve more credit and why?

For me, it's Peter Hook. Obviously not the least known bass player ever but he's rarely ever brought up and I don't feel like he gets enough credit as a bass player or as a melody writer.

He gets mentioned here quite often, if that’s what you mean. He may not necessarily be on the radar of Geddy or fusion obsessed players, but he is a pioneer of a style that was quite prominent in a certain era.

David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets. Very inventive, tasteful bass lines that, like Peter Hook, the songs are often built on.

Most of the people on Talkbass are proud that they're not familiar with any music past 1979. This isn't the place to expect lots of discussion about newer musicians.

I'm a Peter Hook fan and he is mentioned here now and then, just don't expect him to be brought up that often.

Someone else mentioned Paul S Denman who plays with Sade. He's one of the greats but you have to be of a certain age apparently.

Ralphe Armstrong, Tom Fowler and Kim Clarke spring to mind. All are tremendously versatile players with incredible skills but they played in situations that didn’t give them the kind of mainstream exposure some other bassists have gotten. Without a lot of effort I could come up with a really long list of similar cases.
