I owned a Maruszczyk Hellwood 5A a few years back. It had a Delano preamp and Haussel (spelling?) J pickups. the bass was light, comforable, played with the feel of other jazz basses I played and was well crafted. It sounded amazing through my then Mesa D800 and pair of Aguilar DB112's.

It's Häussel they have nice options for j pickups. Slanted pole pieces, Large MM pole pieces, stacked Humbuckers and many custom options for Wood casings.

I'd also suggest Fender Mod Shop, sometimes they offer rosewood with blocks neck and Walnut is a color they always offer.

Hi,

Hope I am allowed to post it in this catagory.

I own 2 basses but looking to buy a 3rd one, but...I'm having a hard time finding what I want on Google.
These are the specs I am looking for:

J-bass, dark brown wood body (no burst, Walnut color), rosewood fingerboard with white block inlay, and a bridge humbucker and single coil neck pickup, both passive.

Since I do not know all the brands, I have trouble to find any bass with these specs, hope you guys/girls can help me out.

What do you already have?

If you have a P, get a J.

If you have a J, get a PJ.

If you have a P, and a J, get a Ray.

If you don't like any of those, get an SR.

If you don't like any SR, get a ric.

Years later, it's relic'd beyond recognition and you're left with, what could have been.

I have contacted Maruszczyk but they cannot make this bass this dark, they do have rosewood but not 50mm thick, so the only option is to have a rosewood top instead of a rosewood body.
Or if somebody here knows a type a wood that looks the same as rosewood.

Three Types of wood just came to mind that would be interesting Dark roasted Maple, Ovangkol and dark roasted swamp Ash (here are pictures in this order) could't they just stain a regular piece of Ash or red alder with walnut or Rosewood color?

Edit: Wenge would also look nice and you can get Body sized pieces, but I'm not sure if they'd do it because it's rather hard to work with, also the Bass would be heavy AF, same Problem with Walnut

Depending on your "handyman" skills, you can make the bass that you want. Buy a walnut or brown colored wood body, a rosewood neck fret board neck with block inlays. A single coil J neck pickup and a stacked dual coil J bridge pickup (same dimensions as a normal J pickup).

A Warmoth build probably about $1,000 to $1,200.

I'm sure that in Europe you can find all you need and more.

Here is a Warmoth build by bassdude51. Found the body on eBay. Found the all rosewood neck here on TalkBass. Built for about $800. (It is a nice bass but a "boat anchor" @ over 10 lbs.)

You could get a J-Bass Neck with Pau Ferro Fretboard nearly everywhere, should look nice when refinished with a dark stain.
