What color pickguard on a sunburst jazz?

Rosewood or maple fretboard?
If it's rosewood, you've gotta have a tort pickguard. A sunburst/rosewood Fender with a tort guard is the all-time classic looking bass.
On a sunburst bass with a maple fretboard, I'd go with a black pickguard.

If not tort, then black or white. If the fretboard has blocks, make sure you match the pickguard and blocks.


But my personal preference will always be tort on a sunburst.

both are great, but i'd probably lean towards the black.

Do the new Mia Fenders still come with the big route under the pickguard? If yes that would not be possible.

I think either black or normal tort,

if a lighter color is your thing, mint green or vintage white can sometime look good depending on the bass.

Tort (or black, if absolutely ncessary ) w/ rosewood
Black (or mint, my personal preference) w/ maple

Mint green on my tobacco burst Fenderbird- its a subtle thing, but nice.

on a burst jazz bass, i only like tort guards, but i too am not fond at all of the fender reissue's brown color, so i developed a special dye to make them have more of a reddish/burgundy color like on the late sixties/early seventies Fender basses. it permeates the celluloid so it won't wear or rub off.

There are different Torts and personally I think that Tort looks best on a Sunburst. I like the Tort guards that Warmoth sells. If you don't want Tort then I would go with Black.

I'd go for black if you want it to look 'cool' and tort if you want a 'classic' look.

Also, I feel like a parrot repeating what a bunch of people have already said.
