Now you mention it, there are parts of that country where the cultural resemblance is eerie.
I hope RCH is happy - now we have a trans-Tasman sledging match in progress, which definitely qualifies as non-US participation

Yep, my brother lived in Exmouth, WA. Does the continent of Australia include New Zealand and/or Tasmania or are they just kinda floating around unclaimed?

Exmouth is a nice spot. Turquoise Bay would have to rank high amongst nicest mainland beaches around.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that the answer may tend to incriminate me.
Some waterways are signed "swimming prohibited due to presence of hostile and predatory marine life". I don't think they're referring to a hermit crab with an attitude.

Depending where you are it will be sharks, crocs or poisonous jellyfish, or combinations of.
Tasmania is on the Australian continent, to the best of my recollection.
The NZ issue has already been covered sufficiently.
All-in-all, pretty safe in the water, though. Compared to what's crawling/sliding around on land.

If anything, reading the responses in this thread -- and then checking some reference sources to clarify things before I do something stupid like write "What a crock of poop, where did you go to school?!?!" -- has taught me that the word "continent" refers exclusively to a geologic feature irrespective of political boundaries. Which is almost completely opposite from the way I learned it back in grade school 50-something years ago.
