For longer threads in progress, it's wise to read at least the beginning, some of the middle, and some current posts before contributing. Specifically, let the current state of the thread dictate contribution and even if any should be made, rather than initial impressions of the OP that have no doubt already been covered.

I've been here for a generation and I still overlook how important that is. So perhaps it's what I relearned today.
