What did you learn today?

No. my line's eminently boring — just words, I'm afraid ;)

Let me guess. To freedom ? :)

My catch was about a foot and a half long, from tip to toe. In a pink fit, I wouldn't have joined ^ that party — not on your nelly :ninja:

The boffins have been musing lately — don't ya just love that? And there's a good number of decent studies dedicated to the genius of this genuine 'monster' from the deep. They're pretty special. (Aren't we all.) … Thinking caps on …

(NB: The plural of 'octopus' is 'octopuses' — National Geographic may like to take particular note :wacky:)

So sorry to read of your troubles, matey. Sometimes, the hard road is the only road. As I've gone down this one, once or twice, you have my greatest respect. Remember, this will work out, with good sense and dedication, although, sadly, a compromise may be the best way forward.

One thing to remember: It's better to hold on to that love. It's yours and it's precious. She will realise that, sooner or later. You must look after yourself too.

I hope these astonishing octopuses give you a worthy distraction :)
I appreciate it. I have found out a lot about myself and I'm grateful to have love of life. Octopus Rule!

While I'd never dream of doing it, I just learned what happens when you give an octopus MDMA. The gen(i)e's out of the bottle. The science is in.

And the cephlapods? They're out of it. Totally!
…"I have to admit that it was totally trial and error. Honestly, I just didn't think this was going to work, so we started out at super high doses," …
'Super high doses'? I'd be asking why. Where's the sense in that?
"… the animals went through this hyper-vigilance where they were perched at the top of the tank like a hawk trying to watch a mouse or something."…
Understandably. … I'd be right up there with 'em :wacky:
Surprised by the octopuses' sensitivity to the drug, ['She's breaking up, Captain. I can't hold 'er.'] the researchers scaled back the dose.

"When we gave them the dose that you'd give a human, but adjusted for body weight, they started acting just like you'd expect a human to," Dr Dolen said.

Once suitably dosed, it was experiment time. …

With intelligence again under the spotlight, the wrongfully accused Inky from down under gets some more press,
… 'The body is an extremely important part of understanding the world around you, and I think animals make the same use of it as we do.'

Another example is Inky the octopus, who made a brazen escape from New Zealand's National Aquarium earlier this year, slithering down a 50-metre drainpipe and disappearing into the sea.

De Waal says comparing an octopus's intelligence to a human's is a challenge, as they have large brains as well as neurons along their tentacles.

'It has a distributed nervous system and that's why we cannot really compare human intelligence or mammalian intelligence with the octopus, because it's a very different creature,' he says. …
Why we've been testing animal intelligence all wrong
Too right it is. Dream on …

Thanks.
26 years. The honesty comes from the realization that I can't be the only person in the world going through this. The frustration comes from the fact that I love her. Thing is, she came home last night in a good mood. I'm confused!! Honestly though when I wrote that at the peak of frustration and I gotta tell you... it really made me feel better.

Sorry to hear of marital problems

Some awful footage on kiwi news tonight
Take care...
Will do. Thanks. I don't have television here but I don't wish to see this carnage anyway. I'm staying abreast of it, none the less.

In the mid nineties I was trapped with a bunch of people, by fire, at Manyana. We drove in for a surf, off the highway, and a few clicks out of Manyana a fire was spotting along the road. While we were in the water, glowing, smoldering bark started falling, helicoptering out of the sky, blown in by a brisk westerly.

That little blaze we passed on the road, had grown exponentially and the whole place was in danger of going up, not ten minutes after we arrived.

It's happening again. This time it's much, much worse.

  • It is too late to leave.
  • Seek shelter as the fire approaches. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.

We're safe where we are, for the time being, but this is a truly wicked season — no end in sight. We're losing so much and it can only get worse.

I'm on the East Coast of the South Island

The Moon has been a radioactive Orange colour the last 2 evenings.

Apparently the smoke cloud on the way is bigger than the South Island...
I marveled at the moon(s) here last night ;) Your description's accurate. Radioactive Orange is also the colour of my car. It's supposed be white :wacky:

A thousand apologies for the smog, and the carbon. What a mess.

It's 27-31 deg across the city here today
That's "hot" for us
Yet can't see the sun
There's just a grey and orange blanket cloud

Hope things settle down for you Australians soon...
