I now know that a 'top dog' was once the character up on high who wielded, with a workmate, a two-man saw. And that poor sucker on the other end, who'd be getting covered in all manner of ungodly things in the process, down below the top dog, was the 'underdog.' And a little knowledge concerning criminology, also enters the picture — What the convicts tell us about prisons.

Aaahhh don’t know if I’m buying all that the 2nd frame is selling...
Thoughts?

I suppose it means with the naked eye. However, I'm not inclined to believe that. It's fairly common knowledge that all you need to see the Andromeda Galaxy is a pair of binoculars, though that's not exactly the naked eye.

Supernovae excluded of course.
I imagine. I suppose that there's room for technicality in either direction. What I read says that it is easy to distinguish the spiral shape of the galaxy with binoculars. I suppose that there's somebody out there who knows exactly which pinpoint of light it is without other visual aids. However, I don't know if seeing a whole galaxy as a single mass of light counts as seeing a star, singular.

I learned out today that Adam Savage from Mythbusters has a rudimentary measuring tape tattooed on his forearm.

if he needs to measure anything (metric or imperial) he can just hold it against his arm for a pretty accurate guide.
I don't have any tattoos and don't intend to get any, but if I ever change my mind, I'm going with the the forearm measuring tape!

Rax had a spokes cartoon called Mr. Delicious... who knew? I find him hy-larious!

The chain went bankrupt within a year of the ad launch.

A brief glance at wikipedia indicates that perhaps the advertising campaign was one of the causes of the chapter 11 bankruptcy. It still exists and there are 5 locations.

It was the product of mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures. And that continued after chapter 11. The trouble with companies that go through these multiple transactions is that they rarely have a strong identity of their own. They get run by professional managers that have no passion for the business and are focused on their own agenda. They get pushed this way and that by the flavour of the quarter management consultants. As a result there is no vision or greater strategy; just a drive to perform well this quarter on the metrics the consultants recommended to maximize management's immediate compensation. And you end up with a bland, rudderless entity that doesn't do so poorly that it gets shot out behind headquarters but not so well that it grows and thrives.

sorry...to flog a dead horse...

Neither of the principals cared about, or even understood, Climate or Morale...neither were elementary school lifers; they were just passing through on their way to being an associate-superintendent of BS at the central office...neither of them liked kids!

Holed up in their offices, 3 computer screens barking at them all day long...a pair of bullies who were unable to see past this semester’s DATA...and, Man! There are very few things an elementary school Teacher despises more than a bully!

The real pity of it was, at one time, for a couple of years, I’d have argued that FSIBWS was the Best elementary school in the state!
I was ridiculously proud to be a part of the effort. :)

Today I learned that a treatment for Atrial Fibrillation I wrote glowingly almost 20 years ago is proving to be excellent first line therapy (compared to rhythm control drugs).

Be careful what you measure. That is what you will get.
