What did you learn today?

Today, I learned that there is a reason other than security for those CAPTCHA quizzes you fill out when you're trying to do something secure online. Did you ever wonder why you always have to identify things like crosswalks, traffic lights, road signs lamp-posts?

Apparently, that data is collected and used to improve machine learning in the AI systems used in autonomous vehicles. The data is fed into these systems in order to give them more references for things they would need to look out for on the road. I guess the more images of a crosswalk or lamp post an AI has available in it's memory, the more equipped it is to adequately react to those things in real time.

I think that's insanely cool.

Apparently my inability to get it right the first time contributed to that google car running people over.

Today i learned a popular parking meter payment app is a major PITA to set up. I tried to pay with PayPal so i wouldn’t be standing out on the sidewalk trying to put in CC info and it kept jumping back to the enter CC info page every time I tapped pay with ppl. After wasting too much time i tried a coin and the meter accepted it. It was misleading in that the instructions made no mention of accepting coins so i figured i had to use the app. It’s rough being a rube in the big city.

Andy was a graphic artist employed by the Campbell's soup company.

Andy was a native of Pittsburgh, where they keep a Great museum named after him...amongst many other things.

I think Pittsburgh is a fine city...among my favorites on the planet.

Today I learned that removing a Greasebucket circuit from a P bass and putting in a .1uF cap with 58-style wiring is the way to fly.

The last Warhol work I saw was at a Georgia O'Keffe exhibit at the CMA a couple years ago.

Unfortunate that she was feeling a bit negative that day.
