I learned today after spending over 2 hours in line on a Friday at 1:30pm with about 5,000 other cars at Dodger Stadium getting the 1st COVID inoculation, to find another time and place for my 2nd. The only consolation is, I played my harmonica for an hour, which I haven't touched in months. If I can't change, I'll bring my ukulele and iPad Pro with song sheets and audio tracks.

Bat colonies are blossoming, wherever you care to look. We have resident microbats — they like to hunt critters, in the glow of our floodlights. We also get flying foxes here sometimes. And they do love to get amongst it. I don't think they carry all three-thousand coronaviruses. I must ask, next time they're topiarizing our grevilleas.

Climate change is driving a bat boom in several population centers around the world. And bats carry 3,000 different coronaviruses — Invalid Link Removed

Celebrity misinformation can jump up and bite you, even years down the track. It did me, today. "Misinformation kills. It impairs health campaigns and incites fatal insurrections. It erodes public faith in its institutions and emboldens militancy and extremism." And it can turn up in the oddest of places, where shallow drafts intoxicate the brain. The song remains the same.

I just can't understand why anyone lends any credibility to the pronouncements of celebrities; be they medical, political, or anything else. Do you deserve what you get if you follow the medical advice of the Foo fighters, vote as Whoopi Goldberg tells you, or do anything Gwyneth Paltrow says? No, you deserve better, but you really should evaluate who's opinions you trust and why.

Today, I learned that there is a reason other than security for those CAPTCHA quizzes you fill out when you're trying to do something secure online. Did you ever wonder why you always have to identify things like crosswalks, traffic lights, road signs lamp-posts?

Apparently, that data is collected and used to improve machine learning in the AI systems used in autonomous vehicles. The data is fed into these systems in order to give them more references for things they would need to look out for on the road. I guess the more images of a crosswalk or lamp post an AI has available in it's memory, the more equipped it is to adequately react to those things in real time.

I think that's insanely cool.
