What did you learn today?

Of course I have no financial interest in promoting the appearance.

I am genuinely excited to have learned this today…and if you have ever been in the same space with Buddy Guy, I’m sure you understand.:thumbsup:

We caught Buddy Guy opening for Jeff Beck at The Felt Forum NYC in 2016. He featured then 13-year old Brandon Niederauer on guitar with him in opening set. Great fun.

I just found out that the few companies that had hi resolution audio files (96k, 24 bit) of legally licensed music catalogs have all gone out of business or had their catalogs decimated due to new constraints from publishing companies over royalties.

It's literally no longer possible to legally download hi res files of most the popular classic albums or even current artists, despite the fact that's it's now technically very easy to do and inherently very cheap.

They're the victim of competition from streaming audio from subscription services such as Spotify, iTunes, and Amazon Music.

That's just fine if you're content to listen to lossy, compressed music files that are worse than CD quality, and you have a portable internet connection that's stable and has enough bandwidth to avoid constant dropouts.

Unless, you want higher audio quality, in which case you'll need to upgrade to a premium subscription with a higher monthly cost, and then you'll need a very high bandwidth internet connection with unlimited data.

Booooo!

One wretch on one album cover, at least one, warranted a mention — playing, coincidentally into the same scenario that's on the desk tonight, and being examined. A little learning is a dangerous thing. I know next to nothing about this nonsense as I'm always looking in the opposite direction. Forewarned is forearmed — Meet The 'Wickedest Man In The World' Who Horrified 20th-Century Britain.

Also, I'm told the world where I live was shaped by tsunami — Risk of tsunami on east Australian coast. Surf's up :wacky:

Size wise in the universe, we are less than a dust note…

The largest known galaxy was just discovered, and you won’t believe how massive it is
Scientists have discovered the largest known galaxy ever. The new discovery is located around 3 billion light-years away. The galaxy, which is named Alcyoneus, is a giant radio galaxy. The galaxy is roughly 16.3 million light-years long. For reference, our own galaxy measures under 106,000 light-years. That makes Alcyoneus roughly 153.77 times longer than the Milky Way.

About the kissing disease and the Epstein–Barr virus,

"… Infection with EBV occurs by the oral transfer of saliva[17] and genital secretions. Most people become infected with EBV and gain adaptive immunity. In the United States, about half of all five-year-old children and about 90% of adults have evidence of previous infection.[18] Infants become susceptible to EBV as soon as maternal antibody protection disappears. Many children become infected with EBV, and these infections usually cause no symptoms or are indistinguishable from the other mild, brief illnesses of childhood. In the United States and other developed countries, many people are not infected with EBV in their childhood years.[19] When infection with EBV occurs during adolescence, it causes infectious mononucleosis 35 to 50% of the time.[20] In 2022, it was shown that recent EBV infection causes a 32-fold increase in the risk of developing multiple sclerosis.[21] …"
It's good to have this awareness — we have a far better chance now of doing something about it, and its consequences, armed with this knowledge. Then again, what do I know? Nothing.
