Japanese macaques seem to have made several strides in their evolutionary process, particularly when it comes to tool use. I can recall news items from there several years ago noting that some communities of them had figured out what plastic bags were for, and started using them to carry their loot when they would "raid" sidewalk produce vendors to snatch up fruit & veggies. When they realized there was also food to be found indoors, they learned to trigger the automatic door sensors of grocery stores to let each other in.

They have also learned that humans tend to carry snacks in the bags hanging from their shoulders.

One is best advised to keep one's wits very sharp when around them. ;)

TIL that the actor Chuck Connors played in the NBA and MLB. I also learned that "Connors was the first professional basketball player to be credited with shattering a backboard when he brought down an improperly installed glass backboard with a 40-foot heave as warmups ended before the season opener was to start at the Boston Arena on November 5, 1946." Alka-Seltzer is just aspirin, bicarb soda, and citric acid, sweetened to make it more palatable. So, in a pinch (of baking soda etc.), you may be able to cut out the middleman, whenever you're caught short.

** Ask your GP first, to help you determine exactly how much you should be snorting blasting smoking imbibing. Relief, though temporary, may be just a spoonful away :)

When we were kids and had a stomach ache Dad would give us a teaspoon of bicarb soda in a small glass of water to drink.
Theory was it’d make us feel better, or chuck up. Either way it would help.

it would work.

Ahh…. those were the days!! Better out than in. It’ll stop you sitting on the fence.

Bicarb soda is a good alkaliser

We haven’t had any alka seltzer
in the house in decades.
I just go wanderin’ ‘round in the back of the fridge looking for that little yellow box.

In the original version of the board game Monopoly, the "Free Parking" space was the poor house. NOT a good place to be in real life when they were a thing. Picked this up while reading the third chapter in "Nomadland".
This sent me down a rabbit hole….

Some of these newer pedals are mighty thirsty, I'm now discovering, dagnabbit . All power to 'em — I'm guessing that that's a good thing (I'll find out soon enough :woot:). But I've had to take stock (buy stock), for now, and cannot proceed with my loopiest experiment ever until the new juicer arrives.

As it happens, if I postponed this long enough, I'd likely be plugging instead into an outer spaced out outerlet a hundred odd miles away, straight UP! … If that were true, the wall-warts could all go jump in the lake, with all the other space(-invaders)junk. And good riddance :) ("… what to do about the increasing levels of space junk finding its way into our oceans?")

"Scientists are busy testing ways to build a giant solar farm in space. If you can launch solar panels into orbit, so the theory goes, our future world could be powered by an uninterrupted stream of solar radiation. … Space-based Solar – energy above the clouds."

And then there's Space Race 2.0, for heaven's sake.

"it’s getting crowded up there with more rockets, satellites and pieces of space junk and no-one is directing traffic.

So who decides the future of space?"

I wonder. … We'll be fine. … No doubt,

In e-cigarettes, you'll find acetone. Very handy, if by mistake you've gone and painted your lungs with nail-polish. And, in just one blessed vape, you may be able to access the equivalent of nine cigarette packets worth of nicotine. Great way to hook a schoolie — How school kids got hooked on vaping.

I consumed a pack of cigarettes every day for 47 years.
I have not had a cigarette in 9 years…it’s a grand baby thing.

I do, however, get my nicotine by way of my vape.
At 3mg of nicotine in a 2 ounce bottle, that lasts me about 3 weeks, I get (roughly) the amount of nicotine that I would have inhaled in between 3 and 4 cigarettes…that’s across the course of 3 weeks.

Here in the Colonies, Big Tobacco is waging war over who will control the Vape market.
They’ve got the money, gawd knows!
and they’ve got the marketing infrastructure to buy or sway the little guys, and the politicians.
Philip Morris or some such will end up in control, as will they control the legal marijuana market when it comes to pass, nationwide.

I am 66 years old.
I speak to young people I see vaping, and smoking cigarettes, about the £^€%ing EVIL of being addicted to nicotine…using ME as example #1.
It just ain’t right!

On the other hand, as a full grown nicotine addict, I find vaping valuable.

I feel better…I smell better…I save Yuge amounts of money every day, and I’m not jonesing.

I’m tempted to call shenanigans on the 9 packs claim…BUT, just ‘cause I don’t know ‘bout it doesn’t mean a thing!

I can almost imagine that somewhere in the world one could find ‘a vape’ that would deliver the kick in the head of ‘9 packets’ of cigarettes, but I’ve never heard of that.

Somewhere in the world, right now, someone is preparing to plop down $80,000 for a bass guitar!

It ain’t me, babe.
