I call them by model names/numbers because I have multiples by one brand. I don't understand the thing behind naming inanimate objects.

I feel there is a personal bond to my instument. We spend alot of time together and have and will go through many experiences together, so why not name it. In a way I also find it to be an extension of myself, so maybe I'd even give it my name. As I mentioned before, I call mine Leo which is my sighn of the zodiac which I find brings us closer together.

...hehe when I treat the fingerboard or polish the body it feels like I'm doing something good for my bass, maybe like the equivalant of giveing a massage to a loved one

Yeah, it started as a band joke between my drummer and me naming our stuff. Now we are in different gigs, but I still have "Angel" and "Shirley", by Lakland girlfriends. Yes, my wife is jealous...

Hey! My cherryburst 4-94D is named Shirley also...hmmmm.
Dunno...Shirley seemed like a good name for a redhead, so....

I called my Ibanez "My Bass" for six years, but as times goes on, I'm just thinking, She's becoming such an integral part of my life, and we've been together for so long...through so many different bands, experiences, challenges....i figure I might as well give her the respect and give her a name to distinguish her from all the other inferior SR505s out there (ha!)....

I named the 2 basses I use above all others and have kept... The Fender is Alexis and my Ibanez is Lauren. I started naming them after joining my current band, the other guys/girl in the band named there so I thought it was fitting to name mine.

I call it "my bass" and others sometimes refer to it as "the Yamaha" or the "the 605" but there's no name or anything dumb like that.

For a nominal fee, I will name any one's bass for them. Just send 5 bucks and a picture of hte bass in a SASE and I'll PM you with your results. I got the idea from my uncle who does the same thing with stars for people. Costs a lot more than 5 bucks though.
