What do you do besides playing music?

LOL! I have 3 of those....

Also, I think it's funny that the OP assumed that for guys on TB, music was the profession and we do other stuff on the side.... For me I have a full-time day gig that pays the bills and I play bass "on the side". I put this in quotes because playing bass "on the side" means 5-10 gigs per month, and practicing my craft every night for a few hours... so maybe I have three "jobs" (day gig, kids and bass) and no hobbies.... (?)...... I do have interests in and dabble in photography, and I do workout 5-6 times per week. No, I have no time left after all that... all tapped out!

By day, I research and develop legal info resources to help community workers help their clients with legal problems. By night and weekend, when not playing bass in my living room, I like to try free samples at Costco, dance, sing, read thrillers, fool around on my other instruments, and do stained glass mosaic - not necessarily in that order. I also have a side job overseeing a legal information website that (luckily) pays for my instrument habit.

I'm 50.. 20 years at a high tech job.. no kids.. the list is too long. Probably some of the more interesting things are meadmaking and blacksmithing, also used to make weapons and armor back in the day when historical reenactment was more than a themed swap meet. Lately much more off roading and desert exploring.

EXERCISE ! Hyperactive kid > Over Active adult. Run by myself, & with Super Active dog (Rottie/Malinois mix - high energy from the Mal' side, extra power from the Rottie side), weights, HIIT. And no, I don't do it to live forever. I do it because I'm addicted to it. Weekend dinners with the lady, and some extra sleep for an hour during daytime on Sundays - sometimes. Other than that - work, work, work. I spent a century learning bass, and to sing, and now I do both together, and I do not think I can get better on either, so when I am in a band, I just spend a LOT of time alone, working those bass lines, rearrangements, and the lead or harmony vocal. THERE you go ! That's my Biography in one paragraph :bassist:

Retired from Electrical Engineering for over 42 years.
Hobbies which I've enjoyed since my mid 20's are:
1. Music and playing guitar (and now bass also)
2. Firearm collecting and shooting sports (Rifle, handgun, shotgun target competition)
3. Amateur radio
4. Motorcycling...recently retired (last year)from this due to bad knees
5. Tennis...recently responsible for beating up my knees...retired 5 years ago from this sport
6. My newest hobby is cooking...I've found my wife who has been a wonderful cook for 50 years has lost her creative touch....so I've become more of a help in the kitchen....she may argue that point...but I've introduced some new dishes into our routine.
7. Avid reader...especially of non-fiction

Once upon a time, I raced motorcycles. Now, I read a bit, spend time in the gym so I don't hate myself in a few more years, and play music various ways. My wife gets some of my time, as does the house. I might have friends, but it's not entirely clear.

Hunting..and building selfbows to hunt with...shooting long barrelled and short barrelled stuff..and making arrows ...and woodcarving...and just many many other things ...too many to list.

Just a few months from retirement, I have been into (outdoor) photography and woodworking for many years, while still playing in two bands....at the age of 66!

It might be worth noting that I began playing at fifteen, and turned that (with a lot of work, and military training) into an 'off shoot' career....designing, building, installing, and servicing sound systems af every imaginable description, along with school intercom, hospital nurse call, closed-circuit TV, etc., etc. My main focus, though, was sound. Usually, it was so much fun that it was almost like not working at all....even fixing them when they failed!!
