What do you eat before a gig?

Food before the gig? Simple...

Jumbo prawns with a minimum of three dipping sauces.

Enjoy all three flavors, however, depending on the type of music you play, you should use the following guidelines:

  • If you play mostly classic rock, lean toward the standard cocktail sauce.
  • If your more of a jazz player, the alfredo sauce should be your emphasis.
  • If playing screamo hair-twirling metal, dip deeply into the roasted garlic sauce.
These guidelines, which have been established after years of research and development, will help ensure a successful gig.

I'm inclined to accept this as a new bassist gig standard.

plenty of water is all i'll need, maybe something like a banana or a small packet of chips before

Afterwards I'll cave into hedonism with usually some sort of ridiculous combo from the mcdonads drive through on the way home, being the only thing open late that night. usually if I just played a gig and have been hanging around with other musicians i'm really hungry, too:D

I want to eat a good sized meal, but not too big. Want to avoid the bloat factor.

Maybe pasta alfredo with a salad. I want protein, carbs and a bit of fat for staying power.
The salad is to push all that stuff through at the end. er....I mean..... :atoz:

burgers are a thing to avoid, your body secretes a certain enzyme in digesting that makes you sleepy

Tryptophan is actually more common in poultry than in red meat, but even still the amount of tryptophan in anything you can eat still has a negligible effect on you, especially if you get an adrenaline rush from playing.

If I have plenty of time to digest pre-gig, I like a burger and fries. If I don't have a lot of time, a peanut butter sandwich doesn't hit me quite as hard. Drink mostly water or gatorade, but I'll have a soda if I need caffeine. Also keep a power bar on hand for emergencies.

Oh, we eat what they offer to us where we play. Sometimes Fast Food with French Fries etc, but often really good Meals with Steaks or Filets and so on. The only Thing is, it has to be some Time between the Meal and the Gig, because we all don't like this full Feeling on the Stage.

Sie sind glucklich. Die meisten Nachtklube in den US bieten nur schlechte Nahrung an und das Bier ist schrecklich.

Translation: You're lucky. Our venues serve bad food and terrible beer.

I humbly submit that only a Californian could come up with something like this. That's not meant as a slight, but simply a cultural observation.
