What do you eat before a gig?

Playing in my home town, in Windsor, we always like to get Falafel Shawarma, I go for garlic, hummus, lettuce, pickles, deep-fried eggplant, cauliflower, and tahini sauce on mine. They are what our city is known for, the amazing shawarma lol

+1, Windsor shawarmas are best shawarmas, I also get the falafel ones, with everything on 'em. Windsor also has some pretty god pizza places, I've been all around Canada, and the best pizza I've had is in Windsor.

before a show is a very sensitive time - you could be going a while without food, but it can't be too filling or else playing might be a difficulty/discomfort, so usually a decently sized sandwhich/falafel/pita wrap type thing, and/or a good, strong dark ale.

Lots of carbs and protein. A cheeseburger. Tacos. Anything filling.

However, I do not eat anything within two hours of a show. I sing as well as play. If I eat too close to the show, I won't sing well.

Got paid in food at a gig when I first started playing. But the kitchen would be closed when we finished the show, so we had to eat our pay *right* before we played.

I was first up at the mic. I opened my mouth to sing...and belched like a walrus, straight into the mic.

It echoed. For miles.

Never again!

...and at that moment, death metal was born.

i dunno about other people (maybe its cause im in my teens) but the best thing fro me is fast food. a chippy or a pizza. it fills your up and makes you wanna burn the calories off whilst running around on stage. no energy drinks! if you have a can of monster or summin before a gig in 10 minutes your legs will be like lead! flat cola seems to work with me, but im just weird like that. :)

Yeah, you need something to keep you going, 'cause you're not gonna eat again for a good while. I love to get a dozen tamales from the tamale man and split them with the band while we are setting up. Nothing better to stay with you the whole gig!

I'm all about the 5 hour energy shot. Its mostly B12, so it doesn't jack you up or make you feel bad later. At 48, playing on weeknights, weekends, raising kids...those little shots get me thru those gigs where I had to get up at 5:30 am that day, and will have to do it again the morning after.

I don't like eating just before or during a show. My preference is to have a late lunch, involving curried lamb, hard-boiled eggs, bean salad with loads of garlic and onions, or if that's not possible, fast-food burgers with chilli sauce. If I'm on a bit of a health kick I might just have the bean salad with extra chilli. All washed down with lots and lots of beer. If I enter the gig quietly humming the theme from "Blazing Saddles", watch out.

I guess you know why you don't get the girl. :D

If you sing, it'd be easy to pick out your microphone from the gig bag! :ninja:
