what do you miss about old school internet?

Eh, kinda splitting hairs here with this one.

I'd say most of the general public didn't have internet on a family home computer until the mid to late 90's. I remember in late elementary school (up until my freshman year of high school) we'd have letters sent home every year asking if we had internet connection at home in order to complete potential assignments throughout the year.

no- i mean 2.4GB per second down, and uploads go over 1GB per second.

i kind of remember a monthly bandwidth thing being imposed a number of years ago, but i dont know if that still applies. with just one person and two computers you dont download all that much (i dont torrent movies or anything [bluray files are gigantic and i have netflix]).

i will consider myself lucky.

Starcraft on Battle.net definitely brings me way back.

When all the video game computer accessories game out, like all the steering wheels and joysticks and whatnot.

Giant track ball mouses (I used these a lot for video editing).

Prodigy/AOL (I still use the AIM 5.9, not that many of my friends go on anymore).

Old obscure search engines (want to compile a list? haha; lycos, dogpile, altavista, askjeeves, etc..)

Old school screen savers... can't beat some of those. Everyone had the Windows pipes and the flying text and stuff like that. It always brings me back.

i used to use a raptor for my os drive and a pair of seagate storage drives. now i use an intel ssd for my os, and the same storage drives. thats the fastest combination ive gotten so far, but i bet newer, bigger, and faster storage drives would be even better. id like to go all solid state, but the big ones cost a poop load of money.

Man, I used to live in that area.. Seriously It is no where near 2.4gb/s..

I remember knowing the exact rhythm and pattern of dial up connecting

But I don't really miss that stuff. The internet is so much better now. Although I don't enjoy some of the personalities that some people take on because of anonymity.

Started early 1996 @ age 11...Definitely miss:
*The dialup sound (and how u could tell based on the tone if it was gonna be 28.8k or 36k)
*I kinda miss the 90's web page designs (or lack thereof)...I occasionally stumble across one and just go awwwww isn't that cute lol
*Webcrawler and Excite! search engines (wow didn't realise they're STILL around!) on Netscape navigator web browsers.
*Was a big gamer back then so I miss the excitement of realizing you could read online reviews, cheat codes and download demos of games "quickly"...which brings me to what I don't miss:

*I didn't mind the long download times (though my mom did when the phone bill came every month), but it sucked when you'd spend an hour downloading a 10MB game and at the last 1 minute of download somebody calls your house and kills your internet signal, forcing u to start over LOL...was thrilled when I learned about programs like cuteFTP :-)
