what do you miss about old school internet?

Dude, you must be really, really, really... and did I mention.. "REALLY" proud of the fact you were online before 99.99% of the world :)
No, actually I'm really, really, really ashamed I didn't go offline ten or fifteen years ago, like everyone else I knew seemed to, instead of wasting the time subsequently among halfwitted bubbas, juveniles and cheap grifters, trying to mine worth from the WWW about as effectively as if it were gold out of seawater.

Except for getting good at finding long deals on stuff I don't need, the past ten years (at least) online have been an utter waste of my life. Like this exchange, for example.

Dude.

I remember my dad running a dedicated 56k line into our house after my mom complained about never being able to call people from the house. Now I'm fighting with my neighbors 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz wireless signals. Some times you miss the simple stuff, and then theres streaming 1080p video.

Did you set your router/access point to a different channel than the neighbors are using?

My home's in range of about a dozen or so WiFi signals from neighbors (both residences and business), and it seems that most kept their routers/access points on the default 2.4 GHz channels (mostly 6 and 11, some 7 and 9). No one took channel 2, so I did.

You seem quite unhappy with the fact that you are so much smarter and enlightened than 99.99% of those online these days. Must be very hard for you.... you know, because you are so elite and all... and everyone else is so... stupid and beneath you....

BTW- no one asked you to participate in this exchange. I think you really enjoy the trifling nature of the "modern" internet myself. You're kinda like one of those guys who pretends to listen to indie music only, but in the car, you crank up Nickelback when no one is around.

Start to make things right again by leaving now. Nobody is keeping you.

People who continue to do things they abhor don't hate anyone more than themselves.

Sounds like someone is upset that their sandbox now has a lot of poop in it. ;)

I miss the old eBay circa 1999-2000 when auctions were actual auctions by average people out in the world selling random stuff they had laying around the house.

You know, before buy-it-now and ebay-stores took over and started spamming the search results with dozens of the same damn thing.

bloodninja: I stomp the ground, and snort, to alert you that you are inmy breeding territory.
j_gurli3: haha, ok, u know that turns me on.
j_gurli3: i start unbuttoning ur shirt.
bloodninja: Rhinoceruses don't wear shirts.
j_gurli3: No, ur not really a Rhinocerus silly, it's just part of the
game.
bloodninja: Rhinoceruses don't play games. They f*cking charge your ass.
j_gurli3: stop, cmon be serious.
bloodninja: It doesn't get any more serious than a Rhinocerus about tocharge your ass.
bloodninja: I stomp my feet, the dust stirs around my tough skinned feet.
j_gurli3: thats it.
bloodninja: Nostrils flaring, I lower my head. My horn, like some
phallic symbol of my potent virility, is the last thing you see as
skulls collide and mine remains the victor. You are now a bloody red ragdoll suspended in the air on my mighty horn.
bloodninja: Goddam am I hard now.

+1 hilarious

You don't have a connection that does 2.4GBps or even 2.4Gbps down. At the absolute best, you have a 1Gbps NIC in your desktop, so that alone would be limiting you if you would be able to somehow saturate it.
Also, Comcast operates on DOCSIS v3.0, which has a hard MAX of 117.18Mb/s (14.65MB/s).
Also, even with SSDs, you can only get 200MB/s in theory. A couple of those in RAID0 might get you to 300MB/s in theory, with a very good RAID card behind them.
You're either lying, or just don't have a clue what you have for technology.

Go here: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Run the test
After it's done, click the "Share result" link, and paste the image here.
Here's mine, just as an example:

Our friends at google are putting in 1.0 Gigabit/Second fiber optic cable in the kansas side of kansas city.

OK, I gotta admit... I do miss THAT. eBay used to work so well and was more fun when it was a big yardsale. Now it's more like Guitar Center ver 2.0
