what do you miss about old school internet?

Yeah. I saw that movie. I fell asleep in the theater as soon as I heard Tom Hanks voice.
I just miss the way society was back in those days. People seemed much more interested in reality and what was happening right in front of them. These days it seems like you can't look around in a crowded place without seeing at least a majority of the people on their cell phones or laptops.
It's exactly the same, the only thing that's change is what's right in front of them
I just realized that I hooked up with a lot of chicks in the past because of internet chat rooms. I was like some deranged ePimp. Cant hait tho, iz how I developed mah skillz.
I feel like people these days go places and interact with people just so they can post that they are doing it on Facebook....

The wife and I were out to dinner with another couple last weekend. For kicks, we decided no one would talk for 20 minutes. We all just sit there and texted each other the whole time.

It wasn't porn or music but a game of some sort (in 3D, which was revolutionary). I would've been quite young for THAT.

56k was awesome when it came out, and then dsl was super exciting. now i get mad when a download is going slower than 2gb/s. ive used dial up/super slow internet traveling, and always get reminded how great cable and routers and the like are now.

comcast cable in santa cruz and santa clara is ridiculously fast. ive pulled down 2.4gb/s numerous times, and nothing is ever slower than 1.5gb/s unless the source is the limiting factor.
my cheap netbook can get over 2, but ive built my last two desktops, and always wire them directly; no wireless. thats the only way ive gotten the connection to peak its speed (i always get the fastest internet option from comcast). mo money mo speed no problems.
maybe it helps that silicon valley and pretty much every major techie company is out here (aside from ms and im sure a few others). santa clara county is pretty progressive with its energy and probably its internet infrastructure. it stands to reason, but maybe its just a coincidence.
really? thats been the standard since i moved back to the south bay/santa cruz. ive had it this way for at least 4-5 years. i thought that was the norm to be honest.
But even with landlines and dial-up internet back then, people always just seemed much more interested in going out and being with and around people. These days it seems like kids my age (21 and under) need to have that median between them and another person in order to interact and socialize.
If you're talking about 2-3Mbps then it's a bit less than the norm. If you're talking about 2Gbps, then it's a bit less than 100,000% of the norm. I'd cap my monthly bandwidth in 35 seconds.
