I, too, consider myself a player rather than a collector. If I'm going to buy a new bass, I want it to give me a different sound or string configuration, or something that I don't already have. It doesn't have to be a different brand; I own fretted & fretless basses from the same builder.

I could almost collect Keith Roscoe basses though, they're such works of art.

Warwicks... it is a small collection... and yes I did let me first get away... but I do have plans for the future to collect a glorious Warwick family! Obviously, no one would be the same model... cause that would just get redundant!

I'm not a collector either. I really only need two basses, one bass guitar, one upright.

While I don't 'collect' them I'm an avid reader so I buy a fair number of books each year. I also like records though I haven't had the money for them much, recently.

I dunno, I have a bunch of models of the same bass. I have a ton of Fenders, mostly Precisions. I've got 5 Precisions. I don't touch 3 of them very often so I guess I collect them. I also have a Fender Jazz.

Then I also have a Ben Lindsey Jazz and Cort GB94 on their way, 2 old Ibanez basses, a custom fretless Jazz, a Stingray, and a Carlo Robelli. I have too many basses in general.

I don't consider myself a collector, but I definitely have more basses and guitars than I need. The basses are USA Fender and G&L, and the guitars are USA Fender Strats. I'm not very interested in other brands, and could easily envision hoarding G&L's, both basses and guitars. They are just incredibly cool. However, in the unlikely event I ended up on guitar in a band, I'd probably find my way into a Gibson or two.

Why does the word "collect" seem to have such a negative connotation here? Collection does not automatically imply "dust collectors", pieces of a collection SHOULD be appreciated through use as well as beauty. I find "hoarding" to have a much more negative connotation (no offense Nedmundo) that implies the need to have a great deal of something to fulfill the need to have it. Collections should be organic, have meaning, and be actively changing and evolving. IMHO, FWIW, etc.

Seems as if I'm stuck on Fenders... not a bad "Jones" to live with I think. Even with all the BIG changes that the line has shown over the decades, they are still making great products IMO. . .
