What do you MOSTLY collect???

of course,the fact that you own more than one bass,means you have a "collection",even if you consider the fact that you aren't collecting per se, all my basses are players that i bought at some point,and then DIDN'T get rid of. i like trying out different manufacturers,but after 35-plus years,realize i have a definite ric-bass preference. i have kept 2 of them,a 74 4000 and 2004 cii,and wouldn't mind having an 4001,too. i have other basses come and go,currently have a frankenjazz,danelectro,and a yamaha fretless. i don't really see anything else that i have to have,but wouldn't mind getting an 8 string bass again someday. strictly a 4 string guy,tried bunches of 5 stringers,just don't care that much about them. i've also owned most every Leo-designed bass at some point-a late 70's stingray was my favorite.

Well I am a player but my "collection" of 20 basses is evenly split into one half Fenders and one half everything else. Among the everything else I have some nice pieces like Tobias, a Ken Smith, a Jerzy Drozd, a Minnieweather etc.

If pull the trigger on the 71 P-Bass I am thinking about then the Fenders will be ...WINNING !!

I'm a player NOT a collector funnily enough I just collect things that I like that are bass related and play them.

The collection is not as big now as what it once was as the collection process for me was more about finding out what I liked (or is it didn't like)

I will never collect instruments, especially of just one brand or style. Why have an instrument sit in dust when it could be in the hands of the next Geddy Lee who's just waiting for a good bass to play?



However, I do plan on owning and PLAYING:

-A Ric 4001 or 4003

-A custom made double neck (Warmoth or First Act Custom Shop) like the one I'm currently working on DIY as a sort of prototype.

-Another Jazz Bass, perhaps fretless

-An 8 String

-A Fender P as back up

-And I'll still have my Squier Jazz that I love so much, my first bass (which is now my fretless), and the prototype doubleneck I'm working on that I mentioned above.

I don't collect. But, GAS is a horrible affliction, and a new bass is usually just over the horizon, taunting me mercilessly.

I usually buy a new bass seeking a blend of sound, playability, and looks, and end up with a bass that scratches most of my itch. But, I'm never completely satisfied.

If my basses share certain traits, they're sound, playability, light weight, and affordability. Not brand or color.

Of all my 7 basses, 3 are Ibanez (BTB405, ATK300, RB850). Not that I am particularly an Ibanez fanboy - it just ended up that way. Two Trabens, a L2000, and a Foundation comprise the rest of my collection. I could easily own multiple numbers of other basses (another G&L or ten, a couple more Peaveys, etc.), just for now have more Iby's than any other instrument.

Now i just have a washburn T-12 and a selfmade telecaster bass(the guitarmodel).

I don't think four basses constitutes a collection, but all of my current basses were made by Martin Keith.

I have four from the same builder because I like working with Martin and I think he builds great basses. Since each one was custom built for me, they reflect my tastes and cover different sonic ground.

Okay, I am technically collector, but I do play each of my instruments, just some more frequently than others. I have mostly SX Js, a few SX Ps and smatterings of other brands/designs.

Why so many? Well, all of my SXes are different in some way, fretboard material, fretted/fretless, active/passive, Alnico/ceramic pickups, ash/alder body wood, 4, 5 and 6 strings, and I like comparing them. Right now my main 2 players are 2 SX ash-bodied 5 string J types, one with flats and one with rounds, although my Ibanez ATK 305 gets a fari amount of play too.

Eventually I think I will settle on maybe 2 or 3 configs and I might get rid of the rest. But right now it is fun to be able to pick up something different. It's inspiring. And I've always been curious and a tinkerer.

They're beautifully made, have unique designs while not being too weird or far from the basic fender bass roadmap, are often fairly cheap, and are road/gig worthy and not too expensive to worry about!
