What do you think about when taking a solo?

Simply nothing, i just remember the chords and improvise near them, the type of the solo gets in from the song.

Oh crap...don't think just do it...and smile even on the what did I just play notes.
I thought the last two beats of every fourth measure were for the bass solo.
When the topic of a bass solo comes up in rehearsal I politely say "no thank you."
I try to not think, or rather not to control my thoughts. It's a stream of consciousness mode. I practice riffs and lines and try to interweave melodic ideas throughout. But when improvising, it's all gotta be free flowing.
"Hey, maybe I should get a puppy"

I’ll give a serious response: I’ve never had any interest in playing solos. Most of the drum/bass breakdowns I hear leave me cold. I like songs.
